Book Stuff

Finally finished reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman today. It just really wasn't my cup of tea. It took me a long time to trudge through that novel. I bought it around this time last year and I started it maybe in August or so. I put it down a few times when other books caught my attention and I finally picked it back up a few days ago. I ( Read more... )

American Gods was a big read, I do recall. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea in the Gaiman universe either....Neverwhere was very charming. I liked it a lot.

Stardust the book veers off from the movie. The movie was solid and fantastic and the basic elements were still there...but it was still a little jarring to me, to compare the two.

I used my Borders book coupon (40% off!!!) and bought Naamah's Kiss. It was splendid. I've re-read my favourite bits of it a few times now and I have to say that she did a wonderful job with this storyline. I am anxious to find out the rest of the story, of course, and I have to wait until next year. Bleagh. I think this is one that you'd like to own and be able to re-read at your leisure.

I look forward to hearing your own thoughts and opinions on Naamah's Kiss.

When i went to borders to use my coupons they didn't have Naamah's Kiss. Although it was before the official release, I'm pretty sure that the blank spots on the shelf in her section were where those had been.

I'm definitely going to purchase it, it's just whether I want to have it in hardback or paperback as the rest of my kushiel collection is in paperback and i don't only want 3 of them (or however many there will be) to be in hardback. It will most likely depend on how long it takes for me to get it from the library. I do enjoy instant gratification and i want it NOW. haha

hah! :)

Well, put your name on the list at the library, then... :)

I think you'll like it very much.

And how in the world could you wait to read the others in paperback? Unless you read them in hardcover first at the library.

Ah, tricksy man... :)

haha, I am on the list at the library :) and I didn't hear about the series until about February of last year but didn't start Kushiel's Dart until April or so. I bought all of the paperbacks and got Kushiel's Mercy from the library and I just bought the paperback of that when it came out a few weeks ago :)

I agree, American Gods was indeed rather dull and laborious. Stardust wasn't a bad read but some of his others had me falling asleep too. On the other hand, his short stories are rather interesting and I liked his collaboration with Terry Pratchett called Good Omens. You have to extract the good from the bad. If only it were all good.
I am Legend was amazing. I read it way before the film came out and I make a point to avoid adaptations which skew the stuff that I like most about particular books. Whether this is a good or a bad thing I don't know. Anyway, just felt like sharing what I thought.

I did read good things about "Good Omens" so i may check that out, depending on how I feel after reading Neverwhere.
I really did enjoy I Am Legend and I still enjoy the film for what it is but I HATE when things aren't adapted correctly. They missed the whole point in the movie, but alas, that's Hollywood for ya. To this day the worst movie adaptation I've seen was "Queen of the Damned". I LOVED the book and that movie was god awful. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
