I hate being lied to.

No updates lately because I've been focused more on getting Spaah! ready for Valentine's Day (biggest time of the year for us).

One thing that's being especially problematic is the hot water situation. When we had the new place built, my bid spec called for two 100 gallon gas-powered hot water heaters. The gas ones are much more efficient/faster at delivering hot water than electric, and I calculated that 200 gallons of capacity would suffice. The builder (Tony), without consulting me first, decided that two 40 gallon ELECTRIC hot water heaters would be enough, and besides - they're cheaper, so it saved him some money. When I confronted him about it, he said I had over-estimated what we'd need, given the size of the tubs, and "this would be just fine." Lying piece of turd.

Since we opened our doors, we've had clients complaining that there wasn't enough hot water for their soaks. Back in October, I called Tony to get him to fix the problem. He said he'd "do some research on it and work it out." Two months passed with no return call and no sign of improvement.

About a month ago, I started calling his house, business phone and cell phone every day, demanding to know what was going on. Usually I get his answering machine, and leave VERY CLEAR MESSAGES using VERY SMALL WORDS, so he can't claim to not have understood the urgency.

Finally, last week, Fred and I just went and ordered a humongous gas powered hot water heater. I called Tony and told him it would arrive on Feb 1st, and that we expected his his crew to pick it up that day, deliver it here and install it. He agreed.

Feb. 1st came and went, and despite three phone messages from me, no word from Tony. On Feb 2nd, I started calling him every 30 minutes, demanding to talk. He FINALLY answered the phone around 2:30. He said he'd be out this morning at the crack of dawn to install the new water heater. Problem was, he didn't have a key to the building, so I left a key with Garren (receptionist), and told Tony that he had to pick it up before 8 pm last night.

Garren called to tell me that Tony hadn't gotten the key. This morning, before dawn, I called Tony's cell phone and ripped him a new one. He sounded shocked that I'd be angry - basically, I told him that I was tired of his lies. I said for two months I'd been trying to get this resolved, and over those two months, his lies had cost me real money and real customers. He promised (I made him repeat it three times) that he would come in today, get the key, and get the hot water heater installed on Monday morning before we opened.

Now before you come down on me for being naive, let me just say that I plan to spend today calling other contractors, explaining the situation, and asking if they are available to come out and install it next week. We're still screwed this weekend, but maybe, MAYBE by the end of next week, we'll be okay.

And so help me God, if Tony doesn't show up today before I leave work, I'm calling the Chamber of Commerce, the Better Business Bureau, and anyone else I can think of to narc on Tony for being a lying piece of contractor shit.
