Character Info
Character Name: Daken
Character’s Age: 64 (looks 24)
Fandom: Marvel
Timeline: Immediately after Wolverine Origins #48
Appearance: His real power is to look fabulous in vests.

At first glance, Daken seems like your typical, albeit exotic New York hipster-young, douchey, and not at all imposing. He’s got this really annoying floppy Mohawk that is far too long to be doing a Mohawk correct. He has more clothes than any girl you’ve ever met, all of which seem upscale (though really, that’s doing hipster wrong). He’s even perfected the shit-eating grin. But if you content yourself into thinking that he’s a pushover--you’d be wrong.

Under the fancy, high-priced hipster-like clothing is a highly toned, slightly muscular body, a result of years of training and great genes. He also has a large tribal tattoo that begins at his wrist, goes all the way up and around his left arm, then down around his left pectoral and ends neatly at the base of his well-toned abs. It snakes across his back as well, the tip doubling back around and ending in a swirl near his naval. On his wrists are large parallel scars from where his father cut out his bladed claws. They make it appear as if he attempted suicide, so he’ll try his best to keep them covered.

Although technically not Wolverine anymore, he kept the suit as a memento, and because really, it’s an easy opportunity to piss of his father. The suit is nearly identical to his father’s old brown and deep yellow/orange outfit of the 80s, with the exception of the gloves, which have been modified for his claws accordingly. An astute observer of the in his costume will see he has a hole around his wrists for claws that he no longer possess.

History:
Daken was surrounded by violence from the moment he took his first breath after being carved from his dead mother’s womb by the mysterious figure Romulus. He was meant to die along with her, but thanks to his inherited healing factor, he survived the ordeal. He was left on the doorstep of Akihira and Natsumi, an upper class Japanese couple who desperately wanted a child. For the next 10 years they raised him as their own, but things were far from perfect for Daken (then Akihiro). He was ridiculed by the other members of his village for his half-Japanese/half-Caucasian heritage, calling him Daken (meaning Mongrel or Bastard Dog). His mother, picking up on Akihiro’s subconscious pheromone secretions, never really loved him, eventually coming to fear him.

His first kill came when he was 9, when he murdered one of the village boys that were bullying him. His second came a year later, when he murdered his adoptive parents’ biological newborn. In a rage, his father disowned him and his mother tried to murder him. The stress caused his mutant gene to activate, and he accidentally gutted his mother like a fish with his newfound claws (he was planning on killing her anyway, so it wasn’t much of a loss). His father, overcome with grief, killed himself in front of Daken, leaving him alone.

He wouldn’t be alone for too long, however, because his “savior” as a baby, Romulus, came back into his life and took him under his wing. Under the tutelage of Romulus, he spent the next 50 years training to be his pawn against Wolverine (not that Daken was aware of it-he believed he was being trained as Romulus’ heir). He underwent extensive martial arts training through various masters (beginning with one of Romulus’ other pawns, Cyber), until he was a master assassin. He learned how to control his pheromone secretion and turn everything around him as a tool to get what he wanted. He was brainwashed into believing that his real father (Wolverine) killed his mother and that everything that happened from that moment was Logan’s fault. Basically Romulus was sharpening a human blade to turn against Wolverine once the time was right.

Only Daken wouldn’t be controlled. He got wind of his father’s whereabouts and began stalking him, learning his movements and what made him tick. He formally introduced himself to Wolverine when he freed him from a SHIELD facility (although he also took out some of his organs in the process). For moving before Romulus wanted him to, he was flogged, but Daken still wouldn’t listen. He’d go after his father again and again, until after a fight with Deadpool (a fight arranged by Wolverine), he was shot with a Carbonadium bullet courtesy of the Winter Soldier and Wolverine tried to undo the vast brainwashing inflicted upon his boy.

All Wolverine succeeded in doing was conclusively proving that he didn’t kill his wife. Unfortunately, Daken still hated and wanted to kill him. He even went so far as to get a piece of the Muramasa blade grafted to his two wrist claws so he could actually succeed. He then went and joined Norman Osborn’s group of psychotic Avengers, taking on his father’s mantle of Wolverine. Why? For fun and to piss of daddy dearest.

He had fun pretending to be an Avenger for a while, manipulating all of his teammates to suit his needs (a highlight was kissing Bullseye on the battlefield) and generally having fun. Gaining access to the SHIELD database was a nice bonus, too. But, seeing as Norman Osborn was a crazy psycho, it was only a matter of time before he crashed and burned, and after his failed attempt to siege Asgard, Daken got the hell out of there-the only of Osborn’s Avenger to escape arrest.

Seeing as he couldn’t piss off Daddy as an Avenger anymore, he went back to plan A-actively trying to kill him. Romulus seemed ready to take him down too, and so the two teamed up to try to take down his father. It was then Daken learned his mentor’s true intentions-that he was a pawn in Romulus’ game-and that was unacceptable. He tried to kill him-only to be stopped by Wolverine. The two fought and Daken finally got the beat down he deserved. Once knocked out, Wolverine removed the two Muramasa bladed claws from Daken’s wrists then left him in a hotel nearby to recover.

Personality:
At first glance, Daken seems like a nice enough young man. He can be charming, friendly, and a great listener. All of it, however, is a lie. That’s because Daken’s spent most of his life learning the art of the con from one teacher or another, and views everything he’s got as a tool at his disposal: his abilities, his charisma, other people, even his own body. If he wants to get his way, he will find a way to do it. Basically, he knows how to act and what to say, but everything he says is hollow. As he’ll be transported to someplace new, where he doesn’t have enough information to go off of, he’ll tend to stick to this nicer persona (you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, after all) than his true one (basically he’s a huge dick). Whether because of his upbringing or because he’s a sociopath (or both), he has no idea how to form a real human relationship, and frankly he doesn’t care enough to learn.

Inside Daken’s head, everything revolves around him. Everyone else is a pawn, a tool to be used in some invisible chess game between Daken and the world. The difference between him and most egotists is that he’s smart enough to keep that opinion to himself. He likes to have people underestimate him, and besides, he knows he’s better than everyone else already; he doesn’t have to prove it to them. If he doesn’t find you particularly useful, he may use you as a source of entertainment because its fun.

He uses his sexuality in much the same way. He’s considered bisexual, he’s really not fond of that label. It conveys the opinion that he finds the people he’s fucking attractive in some way. In reality, sex is simply one of the many tricks in his arsenal to get what he wants. He knows that human beings like sex and typically equate sex with intimacy, so if a quick fuck gets him into someone’s confidences quicker, he sees no need to expend his energy pursuing other routes. And if sex is just the means to an end, what does it matter if the partner is male or female? Plus, he finds hitting on straight men and making them question their sexuality amusing.

One of the things he prides himself in is his taste. He has an aristocratic sense of culture, stemming from the way he was raised by his adoptive parents in Japan. He’s interested in languages (he speaks at least 5-Japanese, English, Italian, Greek, and Arabic), classics, operas, fancy cars and expensive clothes. For the sake of learning and understanding other cultures (a necessary evil in order to properly manipulate others), he will learn about the lesser things, but does not enjoy them. He’d much rather read Hamlet than turn on the TV, but he has a basic understanding of pop culture, just in case.

The one thing that goes against his aristocratic mindset is his ruthlessness and vicious temper. He won’t think twice to kill another if it’s in his best interest (or he’s bored) and he harbors no guilt for the lives he’s taken. As for his temper, he’s not easy to set off, but should you push the correct, carefully concealed buttons, look out. He’s out for blood, and he won’t rest until he has that of the person who wronged him. When worked up in a rage, he devolves into an animalistic state, and all traces of his former self disappear. The angrier he is, the less human-and less clever-he becomes.

He’s smart, but he’s not as smart as he thinks he is. He thinks he’s this huge mastermind, but he’s spent his whole life doing the bidding of someone else (either Romulus or Osborn). In essence, he’s like a child hitting it out on his own for the first time: he’s cocky, zealous, and has no idea what the real world is like without training wheels. He will never crack from the pressure-he would never allow his ego to be bruised in such a manner-but he won’t be able to grasp why things aren’t going as smoothly as they once were, or why it seems so difficult to set up plans that have always been handed to him in the past.

Powers/Abilities:
- Heightened senses
His senses are pushed beyond the natural limits of a human being. He can see clearly in pitch-black darkness. He can differentiate between different smells like a bloodhound. He can hear things much farther away than you. Basically he’s a horror movie.

- Pheromone manipulation
When Daken was a kid, people around him would feel the same way he was feeling. He later learned that it was because his body secreted special pheromones. Since then, he’s learned to control them at will and send out suggestions to suit his purposes. He uses them for fun (to make people feel angry at the sight of him, or attracted to him despite being very, very straight, etc.), or to enable him to play dirty in a fight (disrupt people’s depth perception; cripple them with fear; lull them into a false sense of security, etc.). He can also use his pheromones to completely mask his scent from people with heightened senses (like his father).

He’s very reliant on these abilities, and as a result he keeps mum that he has them. Very few people are aware of its existence, mainly alien’s who seem to be immune to his suggestions.

- Accelerated healing factor
The healing factor serves two functions. On the surface, it heals any and all wounds that might be inflicted upon him. Took off his arm? He can reattach it, no problem. There are only two canonical exceptions: the first is carbonadium, which slows his healing factor to a crawl. The second is the Muramasa blade, which cancels his healing factor all together, and forces wounds inflicted by it to heal at a regular pace.

It also means he can push his limits beyond that of normal human beings-his healing factor will always kick in before his stamina runs out, and it allows his reflexes to be quicker and sharper than an average human being. In short, it maintains his body to its peak health. And thanks to that, the second function comes to play: it also slows the aging process. Which is why he’s 64 and looks 24. And will probably outlive all of you.

- Two bone claws on each hand
Housed in his forearms are two long bone claws that come out from between his knuckles at the base of his hands. His body has made modifications to allow the bones to be stored in the arm and look natural when they’re retracted. The bone itself is a darkish color, almost black, and is fairly rough to the touch. The points are extremely sharp, and are capable of puncturing flesh, bones, and metal with ease. And just like every other bone, these can be broken.

He used to have two more just like them on his wrists, but daddy Wolverine didn’t like the fact they were coated in a piece of the Muramasa blade and could kill him, so he did some surgery and removed them. They’re in some unmarked grave somewhere with the rest of the Muramasa blade.

- Highly skilled fighter
Daken spent most of his life with various martial arts masters, picking up as many deadly arts as Romulus would throw at him. This means he can kick your ass 60 ways to Sunday. He seems to prefer gymnastic moves to everything else. He’s also received samurai training, meaning he’s skilled with both swords and a bow and arrow.

Limitations: Daken will find that his powers have been severely limited since arriving at Belle Point. His healing factor will be working at a slower rate than normal-cuts that would take seconds to heal now take minutes, minutes take hours, and so on. Scars will definitely form if wounds are deep enough. In fact, he may actually have to go to a hospital now if he gets seriously injured (that is, if his pride will allow it, which it probably won’t). It also means that if he wants to pop his claws he’ll have to deal with the fact he’ll bleed all over the place. This will pose a bit of a dilemma for Daken, because on the one hand he’s a very spoiled man who doesn’t like to dirty himself or his clothes if he doesn’t have to, but on the other hand he’s reliant upon his claws as his primary weapon and enjoys showing them off frequently.

His heightened senses still work, however they only seem to work sporadically, and when they do decide to manifest themselves, they will be much weaker than he’s used to. He’s certainly not going to be able to hear conversations at the other side of a crowded bar or track someone by their scent or anything else he’s used to being able to do.

But what will be most crippling is the disappearance of his pheromone manipulation. Daken has grown to be reliant on manipulating others through his scent, and finding that he can no longer do so will leave him more than a little irritable. He will find himself trying (and failing) to rely on it when he feels cornered, and his confident, cocky exterior will falter as a result of failing. Whether that means he will stutter or lose his temper depends entirely on the situation.

Log/Third Person Sample:
The first few times Daken found himself back at the entrance of Belle Pointe, it was a cute trick. That quickly devolved to an annoying anomaly and finally to a huge pain in the ass.

There was no time to be wasted in this shitty little coastal town-a town he never remembered seeing on any map, with a coastline unlike any he was familiar with. He’d traveled the world hundreds of times over and he was certain that this place didn’t exist.

Yet here he was, apparently stuck in someone’s idea of a cute joke.

Daken had to leave this place immediately and return home to his world. First and foremost, he needed to recover. Although he would never admit it out loud, he was still weakened from his father’s cowardly attack. His arms were sore to move, and touching them produced searing pain. Who knew how long that would last? How long does it take the lowly human to recover from such a wound?

But that wasn’t what was important. What was important was his empire. Romulus’ kingdom might have been torn to shreds, but that didn’t mean he still couldn’t be prince. It simply meant that there was more work to be done. Rather than inheriting it, he would have to create it from the ground up. And every second he wasted in his dump was a second he was taking away from his task.

He tried to leave the town one last time.

Seeing the now familiar streets coming once more into view, his first instinct was to let out a stream of curses in a variety of languages. No, he was better than that, and there were more productive ways to spend his time than throwing a temper tantrum like a child. He wanted to rule the world, and he will. All he had to do was bide his time and find a proper way to escape. If he was lucky, he might be able to get someone else to do the work for him.

In the meantime, this place would make excellent practice.

Journal Entry/First Person Sample:
[The voice on the line seems friendly enough, although something about it seems off. After all, faking cheerful emotions when in actuality you’re quite pissed off is hard.] I thought there wasn’t anything left in the world that could surprise me, but it would appear that I’m wrong. Being stranded here certainly wasn’t in my plan (nor I am sure any of yours), but it seems leaving isn’t an option. At least whoever brought me here was able to provide housing, means of communication, and a line of credit. Something tells me that I shouldn’t be holding my breath waiting for my gracious host to make an appearance.

[There’s a pause as Daken forces himself to speak the last few sentences; even pretending to be in a position of weakness is a blow to his pride.] I’m looking for a guide familiar with the town. Would anyone be willing to help a new guy out?
