Well, that sort of leaves out days 1-3, but I'll do a quick re-cap. The main point of the post is to say hello, we're alive and having a grand time. B and I are packed up in the little convertible and winding our way from coast to coast to drop him of in CT for the next 5 months. What a great time so far! I should know better than to read one of your posts when I'm already hungry.

My family did a four corners driving trip when I was 12 or so. I still remember these places you describe. It was pretty spectacular. The Grand Canyon, the buttes and mesas of Arizona, the cool green relief of Durango, Colorado, the little stands at the four corners spot selling turquoise jewelry and Navaho rugs, jumping into the freezing Colorado river to cool down from the blistering heat of the day, the mysterious Anasazi ruins. But the memory I perhaps look back on most is the thunderstorm that lit up the sky in colors I've never seen before or since. A storm in the desert is somehow more primal than a storm anywhere else in the world. I'm so glad you're getting to see all this first hand. Thanks for reminding me of my own journey there so long ago.

I can't wait to hear about the next stage of your adventure!

I know I'm a huge geek, because the first thing I thought was 'Neat, my character is from the Four Corners area!'

But... um (or erm, if you're non-rhotic), I'm glad you guys are having a good time. It sounds like a very interesting trip aside from all the driving. You're seeing a lot of the parts of the southwest that I'd like to see, and just the idea of anazazi cliff dwellings is a shiver of poetry for the soul.

Continue to drive very safe, and give us reports when you can.
