It’s Not You, It’s Me

Yunho was happily walking down the street of his apartment. Finally tomorrow he was going to get married with the love of his life and things couldn’t be any better in his life.

Just about 3 blocks before his apartment, he noticed a new pet store/ veterinarian office and decided that maybe he should take a look inside. Joyfully he stepped inside the store and went directly to where all the animals on sale where at.

The thought of buying a pet had been in his mind for some weeks now. Maybe this could be a nice pre-wedding be present for himself and his boyfriend.

“Are you looking for something in special?” A soft voice asked in a serious tone. “I could help you.”

Yunho turned to look at the man that has just spoken to him and smiled widely. The man, no, still a boy, was very handsome, he had to admit it, even though usually he didn’t see anyone more beautiful and precious than his soon to be husband. “Yes. In fact I am looking for a pet, like really easy to take care of. Maybe a fish?”

“All pets are a task that an owner should be aware of and be able to fulfill gladly. So I would recommend you to think it through. They are also living beings so we’re not talking about anything without importance here,” the boy said seriously, almost as if scolding Yunho for saying he wanted something easy.

“I am aware of that. And I will take care of my pet with all my heart, but I don’t know which would be good for me, well, us. I’m getting married tomorrow!” Yunho exclaimed excitedly.

The boy raised an eyebrow and looked at Yunho as if he was insane. “You said a fish, right? Maybe a betta fish would be good for you,” the boy said, as he walked through the aisle towards the fish tanks. “A betta fish doesn’t need a filter. You have to change his water once a week, though.”

Yunho nodded as the boy continued telling him all the necessities and cares or a betta fish. But no matter what he had just decided he wanted a betta fish. A blue one since it was his favorite color. “I want that one!” He told the boy, pointing exactly at the fish he wanted. “And also all the things I need to take care of it.”

The boy smiled and nodded. Yunho watched with a smile as the tall boy prepared everything and went on the other side of the cash desk.

“Are you gonna keep staring at me or are you going to pay, Sir?” The tall cashier asked Yunho, bringing him back to reality.

“Oh, sorry! How much is it again?” He asked, a bit embarrassed at being caught staring.

“20 000 Won,” the boy replied, smirking at the sight of Yunho’s slight blush.

“I’m getting married tomorrow, you know, it’s not like I was staring because I found you so handsome,” Yunho said, smacking himself, literally, after he realized how that had sound.

The boy laughed out loud and nodded. “Yes, you told me that. This is sort of a pre-wedding present, isn’t it?” He responded, pointing at the fish and the other stuff.

Yunho smiled at his own clumsiness and decided that it was better to pay and get the fuck out of there before he could damage what was left of his dignity.

And that was exactly what he did, barely saying a word to the cashier boy, who amusingly waved at him goodbye.

“Jae, I’m home!” Yunho exclaimed happily, as he entered the apartment he shared with his fiancé.

Jaejoong suddenly appeared, looking a bit stressed and jumpy. “You’re here so early, Yun! I missed you!” He said, getting closer to Yunho and hugging him, before kissing him on the lips. “What is that?” He asked, pointing at the things Yunho had in his hands.

“Oh! It’s a fish! It’s a pre-wedding present for us! I thought you would like it, baby!” Yunho said happily, putting down all the things on the coffee table and sitting on the loveseat to start arranging everything.

Jaejoong laughed and shook his head. “I love it, Yun. But you didn’t have to buy it, you know.” He sat beside Yunho and started helping him. He grabbed the tiny fish tank and immediately went to pour some fresh water in it.

“It’s called YunJae. You know, for Yunho and Jaejoong and it represents our love and start as a married couple,” Yunho explained when Jaejoong came back from the kitchen. He put the fish in the water and poured a little of fish food as well after putting the tank on the coffee table.

“You’re so mushy that if it wasn’t for the fact that I love you, I would’ve hit you,” Jaejoong teased, resting his head on Yunho’s shoulder and looking at the fish.

“What about pre-nuptial sex?” Yunho asked, with a husky tone.

Jaejoong’s body tensed and Yunho immediately knew something was wrong. “I-I don’t think so, Yun. I have something to tell you.”

“What is it?” The taller man asked, getting worried by the second.

“Remember that meeting I have to go to in Tokyo?” Jaejoong asked carefully, grabbing Yunho’s hands in his. Yunho nodded vigorously so he continued. “Well, it is the day after tomorrow so I have to fly right after our wedding…but don’t worry. I will come back right after and then we can have our honeymoon in Jeju Island as you wanted.”

Yunho sighed. “Isn’t there a way you could not go to that meeting?” He hopefully asked.

“I wish there was, but there isn’t. And it means a lot for me to be there,” Jaejoong finished, squeezing Yunho’s hands reassuringly.

“Then go. I will be here waiting so just hurry up to have our desired honey moon together,” Yunho said, looking directly at his fiancé’s eyes and giving him a huge smile. “I will change the tickets and hope for the airline to still have for next week.”

“You’re the best!” Jaejoong screamed out in happiness, hugging Yunho tightly and tackling his down with a kiss on the lips.

“That means I’m getting pre-nuptial sex, then?” Yunho asked hopefully.

Jaejoong nodded and got up. He walked towards the bedroom and Yunho walked right behind him.

“I’m hungry, Hee!” Yunho pouted at his friend. “I miss Joongie’s marvelous food!”

Heechul rolled his eyes. “Stop sulking Yunho. He’s been gone for like 4 days and he’s coming back tomorrow, right?”

Yunho nodded. “Yes. We talked on the phone yesterday and he said he was coming back tomorrow first hour!”

“Oh, so you’re talked to him! So why the fuck you sulk as if you haven’t seen or talked to him in ages?” Heechul asked, getting up from his couch and looking for the phone directory. “What about thai food?” he asked when he finally found the phone directory.

Yunho nodded in agreement. He was at his best friend’s house, watching ‘The Transporter 3’, which he had found quite good. “Thai is fine. And I really haven’t talked more than ‘hello’ or ‘how are you?’ to Jaejoong. He had been really busy these past days.”

“Oh. I see,” Heechul replied uninterestedly. He grabbed his cell phone and started dialing the number. Once they picked up, he ordered the food and hung up. “There. They will be here in half hour.”

Yunho nodded and was about to say something when his cell phone ringed. He raised an eyebrow in confusion after looking at the ID of the caller. He didn’t know that number, but he picked up anyways.

“Hello? Who is this?” He asked in a harsh tone. Yunho didn’t like prank calls and that had been happening recently after he appeared in a video of a famous singer as a back-up dancer and rapper.

“Yunho…it’s me, Jaejoong,” his husband responded at the other end.

“Joongie! What’s wrong? You sound weird,” Yunho asked, not liking the tone of his newlywed husband.

Jaejoong sighed. “Look, Yunho. I have something to tell you…” he said.

“You have to prolong your meeting?” Yunho asked, quite annoyed. He was sure that was why Jaejoong sounded so off and worried.

“No. It’s not that, Yunho,” Jaejoong replied. He took a deep breath and continued. “I have to confess that these past days I haven’t really been in a meeting…well, I have, but that ended soon. I-I happened to meet up with someone here and one thing led to another, Yunho. I’m sorry.”

There was silence and Yunho heard Jaejoong gulp. “Is this a joke?! It’s not funny, Jaejoong,” he asked, confused and not really grasping his husband’s words.

“It’s not a joke, Yunho. I think it would be better if I stay here and you there. Look, it’s not you. It’s me. I don’t want to be with you anymore…I love him,” Jaejoong said firmly and Yunho immediately knew he had just taken a decision and wasn’t going to change at all. That was how Jaejoong was.

That was exactly one of the things Yunho loved of him. How Jaejoong fought for what he believed in, for what he wanted.

“Who is it?” Yunho asked, trying to contain his tears. “At least tell me who you cheated on me with.”

Jaejoong let out a breath. “Dr.Park.”

“That fucking Yoochun! I can’t believe it!” Yunho yelled, getting angry.

“Goodbye, Yunho.”

“Y-You…fucking whore!” Yunho yelled at the top of his lungs. But it was too late, Jaejoong had already hung up before he manage to yell.

“What’s wrong, Yunnie?” Heechul asked worriedly, fearing the worst for his friend. He knew how much Yunho loved Jaejoong.

“He fucking cheated on me with that fucking doctor, Hee! He told me he didn’t want me anymore! What the fuck?!” Yunho screamed, crying in the process. He felt devastated.

Oh, the irony. He had just married and now he was going to divorce!

The only problem was that not only he felt hurt and heartbroken, but also he still loved Jaejoong with the same force as ever.

Was he going to be able to get over him? He didn’t think so…
