More Updateage?

So I figure, I really really ought to update more often. I mean, I've had this journal for what, four years? I used to write in it every single day. Granted, living at home with the parental units required lots of venting, and well, school was uber busy. In any case, my life isn't nearly as exciting as it was in university. Don't get me wrong, that ( Read more... )

FHWA was like that, because we billed our hours to whatever project we were working on. It was not a fun system - I'm def in favor of paper time cards where you just fill out how many hours you worked a day.

Well, it's not that I'm adverse to tracking my time spent on different projects. In fact, I think it's great, because it gives us the data we need to estimate future projects. It's all the administration stuff, like e-mail, meetings, etc, that honestly, do I have to track that? That seems a bit pedantic to me, and screams "punch-clocking" when they claim it isn't.

Oh, I'm never adverse to being paid :-P.

Well, some of that is actually working on a case/for a client, and some of it isn't. For instance, I can't exactly bill a project for Microstation J training or for Diversity Training or an exit interview. But I should bill them for time spent writing them an e-mail or being stuck in a meeting.

But, of course, if everything has to be billable, you end up fudging things like "getting coffee." :-P.

Nonono, we don't time track for billing, we time track so we can make estimates in the future. It's all internal

Hmm ... that's taking time tracking to a pretty anal level :P. We just do an electronic time sheet every week, and bill out to the projects / overhead departments we were doing work for (and add in stuff like banked time, vac. days, etc). Keeping track of time is great for when you're billing clients, or need to know if a project / department is within their budget for labour, but who the hell needs to know how much time you spend checking your e-mail?

Sounds good to me :) You'll likely have to beat the game first to stand a chance though, hehehe
