Most PC laptops have DVD burners standard now. Have you tried looking at, say, dell.com? Or staples.ca? I mean, if you haven't even begun, there isn't much help to give...see what the big companies have to offer you, figure out if any of them will work, and if not THEN come back with your findings and we can help more.
the only advice I can offer is: don't buy compaq, go for Toshiba if you can afford it. also, try to get something with the most GB and best video card you can afford. I'm not a gamer either, but my video card sucks. and GET THE EXTENDED WARRENTY!!!!! I only had 3 years and now I can't get anything done with my laptop. :/
also make sure you buy something that comes with windows vista, since it just came out and you're probably going to have to buy eventually anyways.
Agreed... Extended warrenty is a must for laptops these days... I went through hell with this machine for about three months because i only had the manufacturer's warrenty, even though I was still within the first year!

Best deal I've seen and I'm in Vancouver.
Best of luck!

(P.S. those are also the specs of my Dell desktop... I'd go MDG if not for the freeness of my hardware)
