When you took me aside to have "the conversation" and explained why Michelle meant so much to you, it was moving.

Do you feel that your life experiences have made it harder to get to that point, to let anyone mean that much to you, or have they made you realize how much more important that sort of thing was?

In either case - would you change that?

It's a mixed bag. Initially, I allowed it to make me more distant, even to people I considered "close". I was able to shrug people out of my life without hesitation. Time (and significant effort on the part of others) has changed my view slightly, and those who have become part of my circle are there forever. It's still difficult for someone new to enter the circle, and I don't think I'm able to change that without losing the wisdom that got me to this point.

You avoid the easy ones, don't you? :)

You took a chance on me. I was from outside your comfort zone, and you slapped away all the bullshit to say "hey - there's a neat person in here".

It wasn't until you did that to me that I realized you were right. And so I did the same to you when I had to.

I know, I know... it's deliberately vague.
