I hope it's not too trite to say I know how you feel a little. I was going through my box of photos from the old SE wrestling days, and I'm amazed at how many of them are gone. Each one of them is a drop of blood, a bit of heart, a bit of brain that I thought I would always have - reduced now to memories and photos. As long as the memories are there, they will live for me. More importantly, death strips the small things down to size, and leaves the good, shining, intensely human(e) parts of them for us to remember.
I'll lift a toast to you and your friend that was and will always be, and my own as well. They are not - cannot - be forgotten.
