Daaaamn. Probably should make up a list like this myself. Good list, though. James Baldwin is the shit (I'd also recommend Giovanni's Room), and Middlesex is a very good book. And 88 books isn't enough, so I'm going to recommend The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon.

Ooh, but I remember revisiting Tamora Pierce when I was still into more traditional fantasy novels sometime last year, and... well, it was kind of sad. They were not nearly as good as I remembered them being. Sort of like Spice World...

well with your two suggestions i think it makes it an even 90!
and tamora pierce. i only read the circle of magic series, but ive always heard her other stuff was really good too. mary loves her. i thought i should check it out, but i was never to intrigued by her other stuff as a kid i figure ill give it a look.
spice world was a let down, but reread the his dark materials trilogy and it was so much better than i remembered and made connections that i couldnt have when i was little. yumm. not everything from childhood disspoints! yaayayay.
