Apr 12, 2007 08:48

The Mark Twain of our time is dead. I've read nearly every book Kurt Vonnegut had written.

I heard @this on NPR the other morning

i need to learn more about him. I didn't go to structured school growing up or get exposed to non-mainstream books. My Dad reads extreme amounts but he was never around enough to be involved with my education besides paying for it. When I got older, he started sending me books to read he thought I might like.

I wish I was more well read.

I need to go onto NPR.ORG to listen to their interviews with Vonnegut.

here are some links on NPR

Remembrances: Novelist Vonnegut Remembered for His Black Humor

>>>> Vonnegut was a committed humanist and an outraged critic of the war in Iraq. On the lecture circuit in the years before his death, he delivered gentle and gnomic lessons: He told students that teaching is friendship, and told artists that their antiwar protests had the power of a banana cream pie. Vonnegut also asked people to notice when they feel happy. >>>>

Thanks for the links dickhead. This isn't the time, much less place, to self-measure your literary cock.

what is your problem?

i was just asking him if he still had any copies of the books that i could borrow

i'm not trying to measure and literary prowess - my point is i'm NOT well-read with authors like this. I've read some books by Hunter S Thompson, but some books are hard because they are out of print or aren't stocked by book stores. Powell's in Portland is pretty good though at finding old prints.

anyway lay off
you're wasting your poison here...
take the stick out of your ass.

Tom - I have to say that the replies here are not worthy of the post topic. I remember you reading me Breakfast of Champions in your studio apartment in 1991, and wanting to strangle me when I didn't pay attention. As a matter of fact, I think we broke up over the misunderstanding. I immediately thought of you when I read the news. Since that fateful day, I have read many Vonnegut books, and agree that he was a genius, a misanthrope, and my kind of person. I was sad when I read the news. Goodbye Blue Monday.

Ah er well, yes, that was back in my "strangling days!" I remember also strangling you in my bed as a medical student when I thought you were an intruder. I'm much better now!

Man KV was a kick ass writer. I have only read one of his books but it was really damn good. "Slaughter House 5"

Wow Thomas where did you pick up all the trolls from?
