I've heard of it. I know quite a bit about the gym leader at Violet. His name is Falkner and most of his pokemon are flying types. His strongest pokemon are Noctowl and Pidgeot who are a mix type attacks, but you should do fine if you have a rock or electric types. Those are usually the weakest against flying types.
