We had a cat with the bathtub issue that Malachi has. We found if he has his own litter box to himself and it's cleaned (scooped) regularly it stopped. It's like a protest to a dirty toilet.

I'll ask my mom about cats and babies, because she definitely had Leonard before I was born.

If anything, a baby in the crib is going to encourage most cats, because they like to snuggle with warm things. You may need to keep the baby's door shut at night and use a monitor for awhile.
