I didn’t change my name when I got married. I know what some people think, that I am one of “those” women, a chippy upstart brandishing my feminist pride on a pike, determined to make my way in the world without help or influence from my man.
It might be more noble if my reason was as high-minded as that, but honestly, I kept my name for three

I took my second husband's name, but not so much with my first (I changed it on bank accounts and that was about it. It was enough to cause me huge amounts of hassle). There are a number of reasons for this, one of which is that I hated the sound of my first husband's name whereas my second's name is rather posh. However, I am also very fond of my maiden name, so when I publish under my "real" name, I use my maiden name, which I also do when I'm performing - I quite like that the creative side of me is associated with the young, wild, free and not pregnant side!
Good entry again!

The reasons you kept your name are the same reasons I kept mine. I have a good, strong, German name. My husband's name reminds me of the sound a parrot might make, or a sneeze. So I've been reluctant to have it as my own! Our mothers are both very dismayed that I have kept my name. I'd hyphenate but that just sounds ridiculous. And I am pretty fond of my middle name too, so I'd rather not drop it.
I cannot BELIEVE that nurse would say such a thing! I would have reported her or something.
We have separate checking accounts, too. :^P

Strangely, when we got married I was indifferent, and Angela filled out the change of name forms in work etc. For 25 years she's been using my last name on driver's licences, passports etc. We found out when we moved to Maryland that the paperwork she filled out did not include a legal, social security name change. I'm still indifferent, the old lady at the DMV was outraged.
