LJ Idol - Week 21 - Getting Involved

Feb 20, 2009 18:10

"That damn dog is back," my boyfriend muttered.

Barely more than a puppy, the bone-thin little mutt had snuck onto the porch and was eating from my dog's bowl again. Jake opened the back door and stomped his big black boot to make him run.

This was the second time in a week that I had watched the pup slink up the back stairs, glancing rapidly ( Read more... )

Thank you! I need to post a picture of him I think - he's an adorable pup.

Oh boy. This story very nearly brought me to tears. I have such a love for dogs, as the one here now is showing me love like I've never known. I'm glad those nimrods eventually gave him back to you. And I've read the Ender novel too; that's a pretty cool way to have come up with your dog's name.

I didn't want to make anyone cry!! Think about jungle mange and laugh instead!

I adore Ender's Game. Being a librarian I always have literary pets too. Even when I was a kid my hamster was Juliet, and my kitty now is named Ophelia.

I named a cat Pixel, after Heinlein's Cat Who Walks Through Walls.

This story made me cry - the world needs more caring people like you and less assholes like the family who neglected poor Ender and that asshat who pitched him off the porch. People who abuse animals like that enrage the hell out of me!

Thank you.

Sometimes I worry that I am too much of a bleeding heart, but I also think what the world lacks these days is kindness, so if I can fix little things by being thoughtful, that makes everyone feel good!

I would have handled it much the same way as you. Animals can't fend for themselves in this world the way people can. It is our obligation to care for the species we've domesticated and they deserve as much love and dignity as any of us.

Thank you!

I had to cut it short cause it was getting so long, but after Jake moved out they stole him a second time too!! My then roommate/now husband was watching the dog one afternoon and let him out to go to the bathroom and they snagged the dog AGAIN.

Mike knew I was going to freak out, so he walked up and down the street calling for Ender and even knocked on some doors. He couldn't find him and then just before he gave up, he saw that big white truck pulling in their driveway.

He started calling for him again. They opened their window to get their mail and Ender leapt out and ran to Mike, lol!!

I lived there for about 9 months after taking Ender in and it was SUCH a freaking relief to move to a different town where I didn't have to worry about those crazy rednecks trying to steal him again!!

You totally made the right choice - I'd have taken the dog over that boyfriend any day :o)
