The priestess stood on a hill. Tendrils of dark hair, loosely bound in a braid, whirled about her face as she scanned the sky.

No birds today. Not a single sparrow, swallow, certainly none of the majestic eagles that would please her Caesar.

An ornithomancer, she had spent the morning preparing for divination, wandering the Forum Boarium to find the ( Read more... )

Very well written. I was completely entranced and drawn in. I loved the way you looked at the topic and tied it in with the story at the beginning and end.

Thank you so much for your compliments! I am so glad you enjoyed this.

I really had a wonderful time writing the fictionalized portions, although the rest took a lot out of me, lol.

Wonderful! My hand actually hurt when I read about the door slamming. You really have such a gift with words and bringing your audience right into the story. This had to have been difficult to write, but you did it beautifully.

Thank you so much!

It's so funny how some topics just scream to you that there's a definite path to take with them but others you flounder around for a while before settling.

This one was like that - I was really tempted to write something lighter, because I don't need to be in *this* place this week, but it was a story I've long wanted to share.

I am just stunned. Powerful stuff, this. I can't tell you how badly I felt for you, reading this story.

As I told someone yesterday, this was not my finest hour.

But, I try to look at bad happenings as chances to learn - and the saddest part of the story is that J and I actually had a really great relationship in so mnay ways - he had been terribly supportive, but, like so many people when they are stressed and drinking, he just let it get way out of control one night. He didn't want to hurt me, but he did.

I was scared of him after that and any good from our relationship was superceded by that fact for years after we split.

It's good that you can put it in perspective. Still, I found myself wishing I could enter that story and protect you!
