I feel you on this! Our last kitten wasn't exactly a stray (she was from a litter that my brother-in-law's friendly outdoor cat gave birth to) but she wasn't a planned addition either! (See icon, although she is older now)
AHH! I adore ginger kitties! I love all the kitties. I am ashamed to say I have 5 - although at one point, we had 11 in the house after a stray I brought home had kittens!
We currently have 5 as well - Amelia Pond is the baby, she's about 9 months now; Malcolm, Tucker, and Archer are all litter mates and they are 9 years old, and Kara (Thrace -aka Starbuck) is about six I think. The most we ever had was 8 when the boys mom had her litter of five kittens plus we had two older cats as well although those two are no longer living.
You make me feel so much better! We have Bacon, she is 11 and was my husbands before we married. Then there's Lily who is 4, Alice is 3 and the "kittens," who were part of the litter of stray babies, are Silvermist and Gris Gris and they just turned two. We also lost two older cats last year! And we have a small dog - Chipper Bones. She is a Jack-Chi and is smaller than the cats! Needless to say, my life is covered in animal fur.
I brought home a cat 10 years ago who started peeing on my bed a week later ... I'm about to go retrieve my duvet and duvet cover from the dryer to finally go sleep. See icon.
A whole litter of feral kittens is a lot to try to tame at once-- especially if they've found a way to burrow behind the appliances rather than be out where they're getting socialized.
I do understand the urge, though, and there's always a first time to make a mistake like that!
