LJIdol Week 14 - Confessions From The Chair

Jul 04, 2014 19:01

Just after my sophomore year of college I found myself homeless. Not houseless, as in, I was living with all my earthly possessions under a snug overpass near the freeway. No, just homeless, the word spoken in the wistful tones of Dorothy Gale's "There's no place like home, there's no place like home..."

When I was 20, my mother decided to sell our ( Read more... )

I absolutely loved this. Among you best entries. Great imagery, and I must admit that the phrase, "tarty neon bra" made me chuckle.

Thank you so much!
And, I'm curious. Why did you like this one so much?

A couble of reasons. There are two stages of life that I never experienced, the first is that innocent time of young dates, a ice cream cone, struggling to save for a movie things like that. I went from being poor at 13 to working nights at 14 so is was no dates to dinner and a move, theater etc. The second, was I never lived on campus or in a frat house or anything else. I didn't get my own place until 20 and that was in my hometown so I could get to work easily and then commute to work.
Anything that makes me experience part of either experience vicariously I really enjoy. And you painted a vivid picture of an aspect of that experience. That youth action of ready, shoot aim, with burning the sheets also made me laugh.

I had two years of campus college life. It was a wonderful time, something I didn't truly know to appreciate until I was a grown up with a million responsibilities. Then, I went a little crazy after my parents moved and bought myself a house to combat the homelessness I felt...and then those carefree days we DONE!

I have a hundred stories to tell from the summer at the frat house though. I'll try to work some more into the topic themes for you :)

Here's an extra one from a few seasons ago. I was beginning to think I'd imagined writing it because it took me so long to find it!

I can relate to the Florida living thing. Nice place to visit, but.....
My hub also went to Ga. Tech.
This was a fun read!

Glad you liked it! Your husband was not, by any chance, in a fraternity there was he?

Aww. I guess I don't have a lot of love for GT either but I do love their men, lol! I dated three of them and married one!

My dad sold our house on Long Island when I was 19 and moved to Florida as well (Marco Island), so I can relate to a lot of this!

I lived in the dorms at college, but never in a Frat House or Sorority house, and the regular dorms weren't quite such a party place. I loved it when you threw the tarty girl out and tossed the sheets on the fire! Very entertaining. :)

Love this, I too loved the sheets being thrown on the fire. The phrase that really made me laugh, though was, "llama with a checkbook."
