Picture the scene: It's 6am and I'm just finishing a phone conversation with my dad when I think I see something out of the corner of my eye. Hairspray also works quite well. Paralyzes them.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Although I don't actually own any hairspray (I use wax). Useful information anyway. I guess hairspray might be better on things that will bleach easily or stain.

I don't use hairspray either, but I keep some around just in case.

How do you keep the bleach from bleaching your tatami???

I didn't actually use the bleach on the tatami itself. The bastard cockroach was actually on the wooden floor just in the doorway of the tatami room, so I only got bleach on the wood. As long as the wood has some kind of coating like varnish on it, and you wash it off quickly, it's fine. I wouldn't want to get it on the tatami though. It'd probably destroy it.
