At a forum in Miami yesterday, NY Times writer and left winger Maureen Dowd said (in a snide tone) that over 80% of FOX News viewers still believe that the war in Iraq has some connection to al qaeda

I accidently brought a pocket knife in my carry on luggage from Tampa to West Palm. I was searched and so was my luggage (because I was traveling alone and had no check luggage and had no government issued ID), but they didn't find it. So...tell me again how the President could have prevented 9-11?
SO... what's your argument here? if security sucks at west palm airport... then president couldn't have prevented 911? that just SCREAMS of logical fallacy :)
PS - number one news doesn't mean it's the best. faux news is really more entertainment than news, really. saying that the most popular news channel is automatically the best falls under the fallacy of numbers argument (most people believe in it, thus it must be right.)
if you REALLY think that fox is real NEWS then you're just clueless. david, i thought you knew a little better! all american media is pretty fucked up. your best bet is to watch PBS, and even that channel isn't quite as unbiased as they'd like you to think.

Here is a good idea for anyone, not just Yasmin, who wants to post comments on my livejournal:
Do not read the first two lines of what I write and then argue with me. You will sound like an idiot.
1) I could pass a knife through airport security even with the security measures which have increased significantly since 9-11. This should let you envision the ease of taking a little box cutter onto a plane. All it took to attack the World Trade Center was a couple of terrorists who learned how to fly in the United States and then hijacked a plane with a box cutter. Would it be Bush's fault if I had flown a plane into the White House using my pocket knife? I think not.
2) It wasn't FOX that released blantantly false information to try to sway an election this year. Maybe if Dan Rather was a good reporter than CBS would have the ratings that FOX does.

I don't think anyone's trying to say Bush could have stopped 9/11. We've all gotten past that stage and went "yep, we were pretty fucked from the get-go". The arguement now is mostly centered around the decision to go to Iraq, the central arguement against being that the government of Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction nor was the government involved with 9/11 and al-Qaida. Everyone and their mother knows terrorists are now hiding out in Iraq, which was believed to be made much easier due to our war there. Terrorists factions hiding in the country != government involvement. Hell, we had terrorists in our country -- we weren't involved in 9/11, were we?

do you really think that i responded based on the first 2 lines of what you said?
why are you going to call me an idiot in a response to yourself and not to my comment?
if you want to know what bush, hius congress, clinton, his congress, bush senior, his congress could have done about 9/11... i can point you to a plethora of resources (and give you a brief history lesson on american foreign policy since Bush sr.'s administration, if required.. i think it is.)
In response to your "patriotic" mood.elenfoiroNovember 17 2004, 12:35:39 UTC
"There is a lot of talk these days about patriotism and dissent. Most Americans have confused Patriotism with Nationalism, though the two are often diametrically opposed. Waving a flag is Nationalism. Dissent is Patriotism. 'My country, right or wrong' and 'USA: Love it or Leave it' is Nationalism. Pointing out dangerous flaws in government policy is Patriotism. Telling people to 'Shut up and get in line with the President' or 'If you don't like it, move to France' is the antithesis of Democracy."
