HELP ME JEBUS (again).

Aug 06, 2007 11:12

Okay, so my EFFING AWESOME new web site is almost done. My last task is to add some good music. I am having a devil of a time picking out some tunes. I need two or three more. I have a jukebox on the site that randomly plays a tune whenever you visit (and you can turn it off, too, so don't worry if you hate web sites with music). I am also ( Read more... )

I think "I'll Follow You Into the Dark" is a bit too heart-rending for a wedding site, maybe? I mean, unless you're just doing the music without the lyrics. It's got the "till death do us part" theme but it's a little too strong I think.

Let's see...Ben Folds' "The Luckiest" works to some extent, but I think maybe it's a bit *too* sentimental. Rufus Wainwright has some songs that might be good, especially "Foolish Love" (it's definitely a romantic song, though maybe not quite as mellow as what you're thinking). "Origin of Love" from the soundtrack for the movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch definitely fits the kind of sound you're looking for...

Hmm, I'll brainstorm a little more.

I didn't think so. It's all major-key-y and it sounds pretty upbeat to me. But I'll think about it.

I haven't heard the others (except for The Luckiest - yeah, way too tear-jerking for me) but I'll check them out. thanks!

I LOVE "I'll follow you into the dark" but it really IS kind of a downer lyrics-wise, not to mention potentially alienating clients who ARE religious, what with the "I went to Catholic school, and the nun beat me and said nasty things so I left forever," and all.

Oh, yeah, good point there.

It's been hard to find good lovey-poo songs that aren't all OH YAY GOD BROUGHT US TOGETHER, though, because you know - I'm not down with that crap on my web site.

Okay so (rubs hands together)...

'Have I Told You Lately' by Van Morrison
'Love & Some Verses' by Iron & Wine
'Anyone' by Joan As Policewoman
'Worries Are Over' by Krief
'Hold You In My Arms' by Ray LaMontagne
'Tomorrow In Her Eyes' by Ron Sexsmith

But definitely NOT:

'I'm Still Your Fag' by Broken Social Scene
'Go Your Own Way' by Fleetwood Mac
'Theme From Shaft' by Isaac Hayes

Hope they're some use to you!

Ron Sexsmith? Are you serious? Please tell me that's that dude's real name!

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll check them out!

Well sure it's a real name...here in the UK every village has a blacksmith and a sexsmith.

One spends his day sweating and toiling in a steam-filled workshop, bent over his work, hammering away with hot tools..while the other one makes horseshoes n' stuff.

I want to be a sexsmith.

Drat, you're right! IT'S THE FIINAAALLL COUNTDOOOWWWWNNN (to love).

In Your Eyes is a really good song, but it might be a bit too popular for my purposes. I need something just a little bit more obscure and Indie-like.

I say you just put "88 Lines about 44 Women" on a constant loop on every page of your website.

Ok, uh... useful suggestions. Maybe some of the songs we used in our wedding-favor mix CDs would work. Perhaps "The Ship Song" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds would, er, float your boat (LAWLS)? Or "You are the Everything" by R.E.M.? I'm not good at this kind of stuff.

How about some good ol' fashioned Beatles? They have a ton of stuff that is totally lacking in OH YAY GOD BROUGHT US TOGETHER. You could have "When I'm 64," "All you need is love," "Why don't we just do it in the road..." ;)

Except that I seriously can't stand the Beatles. Sorry. :P

I do think "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" would be pretty awesome on a wedding photography site, though....

Good reason, then! The Beatles' stuff is SO varied, different sounds and styles, that I usually find that I love some of it and really hate the rest... but the sheer volume is so great that there's plenty that I do like, even after throwing out all the stuff I don't. But some people just plain can't stand the Beatles in any form ( ... )

I checked out Such Great Heights, but the Iron & Wine version. It's way too slow for what I wanted, and the dude's voice is really irritating to me. But maybe the Postal Service version is better.

I'll check out the others.

For now I went ahead and launched the site with just Please Forgive Me. I can always add to it later if I want to. I want to get the site up ASAP. It should be live in 36 hours or less!
