I loved Looking For Alaska! We've got a fairly similar taste in books sooo you might like:
Elsewhere - Gabrielle Zavin A Note Of Madness - Tabitha Suzuma Noughts & Crosses [Trilogy] - Malorie Blackman Exhange - Paul Magrs Shopaholic series - Sophia Kinsella Girl With A Pearl Earring - Tracy Chevalier Skin - A.M. Vrettos Behind The Scenes At The Museum - Kate Atkinson Someone Like You - Sarah Dessen PS I Love You - Cecilia Ahern Just So Stories - Rudyard Kipling
I was just about the recommend the 'Twilight' series - that was a massive seller in Young Adult at work, but then I realise you'd read it. Was it good? The vampire side of it didn't make me want to buy it :( mainly though I'd say I [almost] prefer YA to actual Fiction titles.
I've just read a proof copy of "Before I Die" by Jenny Downham. It was okay...not spellbinding or anything but fairly good, I'd deffo say to read it but not to expect much if that helps!
Thanks! The only one of those I've read was PS I Love You, such a cute book. Twilight is quite engaging, a really easy read, but it's not very well written. I bought it when I missed a flight and was looking for something easy-going. I'm not planning on reading any of the sequels.
I loved PS I Love You. I never bothered with the film, I didn't want to ruin it. Have you read the Louise Renninson series? I'm going to guess that you have...everyone has!
I don't think I'll bother with the Mayer trilogy, doesn't sound great.
Kipling's stuff is good. Classic. Must read! I really fancy reading The Self Preservation Society by Kate Harrison, too.
Have you seen the LJ Communities of the 50 Book Read Challenge?
Yeah I avoided the film like the plague cause I knew it'd be a total bastardisation of the book - same with the Louise Rennison books! I loved those all through my late teens, haha.
I've seen the 50 book challenge, but never thought I could do it. Eventually I figured, why does it have to start in January? I doubt I'll make it since it's my last year of uni but it's fun either way =)
I haven't heard of that book community thing btw, thanks. I'm on green metropolis but I'm yet to swap/sell anything on any of them. I should try to trade away my old English books for stuff I want.
Thanks! It's a play, so it's virtually identical to the film. It was different to read it though, and the introduction is quite long. I enjoyed it a lot.
I created a new community called lessthan3bkclub because iheartbookclub appears to have died before the fun even started. I wish the mods would have handed the community over to another member, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I promise this will be an active community if the members partcipate. I hope you are still interested in participating in a livejournal book club and will join!
