The setting is an obvious one. Paris, France. One American. One French diner. Surge needed a getaway from Vermilion after having stuck around for a while. He truly enjoyed his new job as a gym leader and an inhabitant of Kanto, but he wanted something a bit more average, yet thrilling. Familiar, yet extraordinary. A trip to a foreign country he'd never even been to before seemed like it would do the trick.
It did. The bright lights of France at night, the difference in culture, the electricity crackling within his blood as he took things on that he'd never even seen before... it was overall grand. He had a feeling he could enjoy the place for more than just 'corny music' and 'sissy boat rides', as he so eloquently called them. There was more to France than just that.
Even through this, however, he still found America to be the most varied, the most exciting, the most shocking place to have ever grown up in. The place brought him more than just a memory and a place to go if he couldn't stay in Vermilion. It was his homeland, the land of the free, and the home of the brave. If there was anyone considerably patriotic in the port town of Vermilion, it was no one other than the famed Lightning American himself.
How terribly obvious, but all too true. However, the subject of focus is a rather different one, and takes on the scene of a little French diner, the one mentioned earlier. The man stepping into the place seemed very contrasting to everyone else inhabiting the building, a fresh sight in his camouflage and shades. He hollered for a nearby employee, attempting to convey that he wanted a table. It took a moment, but after a bit of understanding, he was lead off to a window-side table.
In front of him was none other than a curious basket of baguettes. Every table had one to start the customer off.
This one would be rather special.
