Should someone hide their existence to save someone else pain?

Answer: No. One should not hide, but be sensitive to the pain that it might cause and act accordingly. For instance, merely sayig hello to someone should not cause pain, however rubbing it in that person's face that you are doing better than they are is a little on the callous side.

If you have power, whatever that power is, is it right to use it at someone else's expense?

Answer: Overall? No. Occasionally there are exceptions, for instance, if it's for the betterment of all involved, or of mankind or the whole world, it would then be outweighed by the good.
