Sixty-five years. In this time and place, it's been sixty-five years since the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Everybody here is so eager to celebrate Japanese festivals, but when it comes to remembering such a sickening event...
It was so long before any of these kids were born. Maybe just reading about it doesn't seem real enough for him. They never had to deal with the blasts themselves, or have to deal with growing up in the aftermath. Witnessing the slow, drawn-out deaths of the hibakusha and knowing full well that being born after the bombing wasn't enough to guarantee safety from the harmful effects.
Mom wanted peace more than anything. I'm sure most of Japan did after all that. I know it would break her heart to see me making a business out of the very thing that destroyed her. I wouldn't want to make any country suffer as Japan did. To plunge the world into eternal war would be madness.
...But I believe it's necessary to ever truly appreciate peace.
