I see what you did there about the Rail Tracer. I love Baccano <3
The Slenderman myth is one that I want to learn more about, but don't because it seems to freak out and make believers out of even the biggest skeptics, and generally I don't deal well with myths of that kind. Especially if it's a "tulpa" as you described. Everytime I walk into a bathroom late at night, I have to stop myself from even thinking of the Bloody Mary one. The mind is a powerful thing, and silly as it sounds, I think it can cause things to manifest if enough belief is put into them.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed this fic and am glad I read it during the day, else I don't think I would've gotten any sleep ._. I like Romulus, Mathos and (the brief appearance of) Ulbrecht, especially Romulus trying to come up with new nicknames to bother him XD And Romulus being a (mostly) fearless moron by purposely trying to summon Slenderman at the end there.
To be honest, I actually wasn't afraid of Slenderman until I wrote this fic - then I had to get the HELL AWAY from the document for a few hours before continuing. The word Tulpa is an eastern religion concept, and it's a pretty handy word.
Honestly, I'd look up Slenderman on either Wiki or TV tropes, as they have a GOOD amount of information that isn't too terrifying. A lot of the trope page made it's way into the fic - especially the Fair Folk concept.
The Old Guard is kind of...well, it's an awful lot of fun to write, since Rome is amazingly stupid and everyone else has to deal with it.
