So I noticed something interesting... So, to my knowledge, the audience at Intercon hasn't changed drastically. But the genre between the game I bid for last year and the game I bid for this year has changed significantly and with that Ive also noticed a drastic swing in the age range of the players who are signing up! No assumptions beign made ( Read more... )

Do not fear, your game will likely fill by the con, there are lots of people who aren't even regged at all yet.

Everything Must Go took a while to cross the sufficient player base last year, but it got there. We are way ahead of where EMG was last year, and that was a Saturday Morning game. Eden has better time slot, so I wouldn't be surprised if by the time we got there we had a full slot and maybe even some waitlist ( ... )

well, 80% of folks are right now signed up for at least 1 game, so no, peopel do nto really wait. but a relatively unknown non-local awthor will lose in the first rounds to the locals. next week you should fill though. you are past min anyway already

Well, 80% of people who are currently registered. My experience last year showed me that there are a sizable number of people who don't register until after open reg is open, and then scramble to get into games that still have slots open. Stuff like someone's new Sig. O deciding to come to the Con because their new Sig. O decided to come, or friends/roomies being convinced to come despite their initial decision not to.

This was actually some of the advice I got last year from regulars when I was worried about EMG passing the minimum player count.

gotcha. well we do have space in the con for another 50 people or so, so they may show up :) we will see. plus, games also fill day-of as folks who did not sign up look at what is open still

I'm really hoping to play in Eden - I just haven't signed up yet because the other games I was also looking forward to playing were at risk of filling up sooner. It's the very next thing I'm signing up for, and I've been looking forward to it since you started talking about it.

I do hope it runs, and I'm sure it will fill - the games that fill early are the exceptions, not the rule. Give it time.

Trust me, the Intercon run will fill. A lot of folks don't even register until January.

Jan run is a tougher sell. It's really hard to find 30 people to commit to anything a couple of months away, even if it's as important an even as a wedding, as you've found out. :o)

If you think Sat might get more people consider switching....or ask those who are currently signed up if they would drop if switched to Sat to get a feel for impact.

Honestly the only way I've seen to get people excited about signing up for something is the Mike Young approach, repeat it a lot. :) You can also try advertising on the Intercon LJ group - for both runs really - some folks might be local and come play if they already signed up for something opposite at Intercon.

I'm not experiencing anxiety or worry over the March fill. Im peeking at my numbers, I'm just a couple shy of my minimum already and it is only Round 2. January worries me only in that Id really like a test run of this to work the bugs and hiccups out. There is ALOT of plot going on and my biggest fear is that I might need more than 4 hours.

But I wont know until all the parts are moving. There is room still to beef up characters who feel weak on plot and slice back some of the over loaded folks... but I prefer error on the overload side. As Mike Young has taught me... players will chew through plot at a pace much quicker than you anticipate.

Hopefully if I just relax on the RSVPs for now and then totally pimp the game for New Years I can get it to run in January so I have time to fix it before March.
