These moments are for us...

It was a couple of days into their vacation, and they'd not really left the apartment as Danny had requested. But thing morning would be different. Lindsay had spent the night before, while Danny was bathing Lucy, arranging a day to themselves. An hour ago, while Danny was sleeping, Danny's mom had come to the apartment and picked up Lucy. So they' ( Read more... )

He stirs, yawning with his eyes closed as he feels a warm weight on his legs and torso, soft tickles to his lips and traveling down and down. By the time the tickle reaches the hollow of his throat, his eyes are open; he stares down at his wife, warm and damp, her hair curling against his skin. "Hey, babe," he croaks, still half-asleep. "Whatchu doin'? Laundry? That's my shirt." Not that he complains, but he had agreed to help her with the laundry, especially if her shirts are dirty. "Lucy make a mess?"

"Hey," she mutters against his skin, still kissing down his chest. "I think it looks like I'm kissing you," she muttered against his chest, "And yes it's your shirt." Slowly she sat up and looked down at him, her wet curls falling around her face. "No, Lucy didn't make a mess, well I don't think she has. She's spending the day with your parents."

And back she went, kissing down his chest slowly, "I thought I should wake you."

"Mmmm, kissin' me. What's goin' on?" He's exhausted, eyes cloudy with sleep. He hasn't slept well since their last encounter with Shane, although he's tried to hide the fear from Lindsay. He keeps waking up in a cold sweat, even if she's asleep soundly by his side. He hadn't protected his family the way he should have protected them. Shane should never have gotten into their apartment. He'd failed in that.

He'd bitched about the department psychiatrist he'd have to see before returning to work - Lindsay would have to, too, because of what they'd been through and the fact that they shot Shane Casey in Lucy's room, in front of Lucy - when he'd been holding her, damn it, and his dive at his daughter had kept her from crashing to the floor. In some ways, he's relieved about that, about having to get cleared before going back to work. Maybe he can get some sleeping pills out of the experience ( ... )

"Going on? Nothing but me kissing you," which she kept doing until he seemed to have a panic attack.

Sighing softly Lindsay moved from where she sat over Danny and perched on the edge of the bed. "Danny, he's in jail, he's in a place he can't get out of." And while the idea frightened her, she wasn't going to let him ruin her life. "And Lucy is fine, but if you don't believe me then we can go and pick her up."

Slowly she slipped from the bed, reaching for a pair of shorts to pull on, "But I think that until you're comfortable with the knowledge that he's not getting out and he's not going to hurt us, we should hold off on trying for another baby."

Yes, that's what this was about. That's why Lucy was gone, why she'd woken him up the way she had.
