Severus Snape and the Half-Blood Prince (35)

I figured that I had better get this chapter out fairly quickly, since Ananke is convinced that I've taken a turn into bondage and S/M. I must protest. I don't think it's really going that way. It's just that, darn it, there has to be a little dark magic somewhere in the story.... right ( Read more... )

Occlume

Occlude

Actually I don't think the verb form is used in canon, but "Occlumency" is "occlude" + "mens", and it seems to be what people have settled on in fanon in any event.

Haha! That's a good one.

he tried to dance like the Muggles, which meant that one more or less planted one's feet and moved everything else in as many directions as possible

Thanks. I'll go back and fix those!

I get a kick out of the idea of Snape Muggle-dancing. :)

Er... a *yellow* taxi? In London?

London taxis are black. At least in the '70s they were.

Thanks, Jodel. I'll go fix that. Not having been there, I didn't know. And for some reason I was thinking that that checker cabs were actually more London than New York (especially since by the 1980s, checker cabs were pretty rare).

London taxis are (or maybe were) very distinctive being big black and *distinctly* retro-looking. Sort of that bulbous 1940s look.

I think checker cabs are mostly associated with New York, but could be out in left field on that. They are rare here in L.A., although sometimes you see a cab with a line of black & white checks on it sporting some other company name. (In L.A. about 85% of taxis are yellow, but they are emphatically NOT all from the Yellow Cab Co.)

I liked how Snape was taught about Occlumency and how to lie through watching actors, and I thought that was quite creative. I also liked how people could select certain memories in occlumency in order to trick people.
