a/n: This is super disjointed and weird but I randomly found it on my computer lol. So yeah, posting it~

It was no secret that Key was gay. They weren't allowed to say it, of course, but everyone knew it, and there was wild speculation as to which celebrity his crush could possibly be. It could have been anyone in SHINee; it could have been anyone outside of SHINee. But within the group itself, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that it was Jonghyun.

Between Kibum and Jonghyun there had always been a special closeness, characterized by shared moments and not-so-secretive touches. They fought the hardest, laughed the loudest, hugged the most. Minho saw it, Taemin saw it, and even Jinki saw it: there was something more than friendship between those two.

"Hyung," Taemin whispered worriedly to Minho one day. The maknae was more concerned about the issue than anyone else. "What will we do when Kibum confesses?"

Minho shrugged. "Maybe he won't confess."

They both knew that wasn't a possibility; Kibum was too proud to let a crush go unrequited for long. He was spending more and more time with Jonghyun, and the long glances he shared with the older boy clearly told the other members that something was afoot.

"Hyung," Taemin said, tugging on Jinki's sleeve after dance practice one day, "do something!"

Jinki sighed. "There's nothing I can do."

So time passed, their comeback came and went, and soon it was August. Taemin noticed Kibum and Jonghyun ducking away into the bathroom together after a performance so, quietly, he followed. Concealing himself around the corner from his hyungs, he caught the tail end of their conversation.

". . . if this big confession of yours is such a great idea," Jonghyun was saying. "I mean, if you'd tell me who you're confessing to, I might be able to give you a little more advice - "

"I can't tell you," Kibum snapped. "Just - ugh. I shouldn't have told you about this at all."

"Why not?" Jonghyun demanded.

"I just - never mind," Kibum huffed. "Never mind."

"Whatever. I'll know by tomorrow night, won't I?"

"Maybe you will, maybe you won't," Kibum taunted, and it was then that Taemin chose to pop up.

"Hi! Um, hyung says it's time to go, so, yeah. We should get going."

"Taemin-ah," Kibum said, narrowing his eyes, "how long have you been here?"

"Huh? I just got here," Taemin said with a nervous laugh.

"Sure you did," Jonghyun snorted. "Whatever, let's go. I'm hungry!"

As Kibum and Jonghyun shrieked in synch to the bad music shaking the speakers of the van during the ride home, Taemin informed Minho and Jinki of what he'd just heard. Minho frowned and shook his head, and Jinki's mouth dropped open.

"They really said that?" Jinki whispered.

"Yeah," Taemin replied, "and you're going to be the only one home tomorrow night so you better take care of this."

"Me?" Jinki squeaked.

"Minho and I have a schedule," Taemin explained, "so you'll be there with Kibum and Jonghyun and just . . . the hyungs can be kind of stupid. Make sure things don't get out of hand. Okay?"

"Okay," Jinki agreed meekly. "If I can."

...

The fact that Kibum was going to confess to Jonghyun hung heavily over Jinki's head all of the next day. He couldn't quite put his finger on why, but he was certain that he did not want the two of them to be together. Obviously he didn't want the group's dynamics to be thrown off, but there was something else, a nagging feeling that Kibum's confession ought to be stopped at all costs. When Taemin and Minho left, shooting him meaningful glances as they walked out the door, Jinki resolved to tell Kibum straight up: "Don't confess to Jonghyun. It's better for the group if you don't."

But when he marched into the bedroom with the words on the tip of his tongue, he found Kibum to be asleep. His hair tousled, his lips slightly parted, he looked too peaceful, too perfect, for Jinki to disturb.

"Isn't - " he stuttered to Jonghyun, who was in the hallway combing his hair. "Isn't - isn't Kibum going to wake up soon? I mean, doesn't he have to? You're not going out, are you?"

"Yeah, I am," Jonghyun said. "And, chill out, okay? He's taking a nap. He's just tired."

"Okay," Jinki said, biting his lip and retreating to the living room. "I'm just . . . going to go over there and . . . watch a movie or something."

"Whatever," Jonghyun said, rolling his eyes.

Jinki knew he should be happy that Kibum's confession plans were going wrong, and he was, a little bit, but as Jonghyun made his way out the front door something in Jinki's brain snapped and he hurried to jostle Kibum awake.

"Kibum-ah, you have to wake up, wake up now!" he babbled, shaking Kibum's shoulders and dragging him, half-asleep, out of his bed. "Jonghyun just left and if you don't go after him now you'll be too late! And I'm supposed to stop you from confessing to him because it's going to make things awkward in the dorm, but if you really like him I want you to confess to him right now, because otherwise you'll just get moody and sad and I hate it when you're sad, so go, go now! You can still catch him!"

"Jinki-yah," Kibum said, frowning and rubbing the sleep from his eyes, "do me a huge favor and shut up."

"Kibummie!" Jinki exclaimed. "I know you want to confess to Jonghyun, okay? So just go, you have my blessing as leader - "

"Jinki-yah," Kibum interrupted. "Jonghyun has a girlfriend."

"But you - wait, huh?" Jinki had been gesturing frantically with his hands, and now he froze. Kibum was raising those perfectly groomed eyebrows at him, running his hands through his bed head.

"He's not the one I like," he said, irritated. "Why does everyone think that?"

"But then - who - ?" Jinki said, confused. "Taemin said you were going to confess tonight, so who - ?"

"You're dumb," Kibum sighed. He tilted his head to the side and looked Jinki straight in the eyes. "It's you, okay? The one I like is you." And with that he leaned forward, pressing his lips quickly to Jinki's before the latter had a chance to do anything more than flail his arms a little.

"Oh, wow," Jinki said breathlessly, pulling back after a few long seconds. "Wow. Um. I, uh - wow. Didn't see that one coming."

"I'll give you more warning, then," Kibum said with a smile. "Lee Jinki, I am about to kiss you senseless. Any objections?"

"Um," Jinki said as Kibum pushed him down onto the younger boy's bed. The sight of the other man leaning over him, disheveled as he was, made Jinki's heart race, and he grinned in spite of himself. "No, I don't think so."

"I didn't think so," Kibum murmured, lowering himself on top of Jinki. And as they kissed, Jinki could taste Kibum's smile and it tasted like peaches and epiphanies and sweet, sweet victory.

...

When Taemin and Minho got home, Taemin immediately peppered Jinki with questions.

"How was it? Did it happen? Did it go okay? Was there any trouble? How's Kibum? What did he say? What did you say? Is he okay?"

"It was great," Jinki said, a foolish grin spreading across his face. "Kibum is great."

"Hyung?" Taemin said suspiciously. "Did you stop him from confessing?"

"Of course not!" Jinki said indignantly. "I said yes."

"What?" Taemin snapped. "What are you talking about?"

"Go to bed, Taemin-ah," Jinki said, patting Taemin on the shoulder. "And - um - do you want to do me a favor? Sleep with Minho."

"What? Why?"

"Just do it. That way, you can keep an eye on Jonghyun and I," he smiled dreamily, "I'll keep an eye on Kibum."

...

"That was so weird," Taemin said. "I have no idea what just happened."

Minho opened his mouth to speak, and then closed it. He had a pretty good idea of what had happened and despite his misgivings, as he watched Jinki skip back into his bedroom, he couldn't help but be happy for him.

"Taemin-ah," he said finally. "Let's just forget the whole thing."

"Forget it?" Taemin said, outraged. "But - "

"It's not the end of the world," Minho said firmly. "Come on. Let's go to bed."

"But, Minho-yah - "

"Bed. Now."

Resigned, Taemin shook his head. His hyungs were just kind of stupid; there was nothing he could do about it.
