Quick Guide to Electric Guitars and Amps

Nov 30, 2012 01:04

For those of you who perhaps wonder a bit about Tommy and his guitars and the playing thereof, I thought I'd make a little post about that. His newest favorite is actually identical to my own number one guitar, which makes me go awwwwww. It's an amazing guitar and it's so funny to see him using it.

Thanks bb. I tried to tie things to Tommy to make it easier to understand for those who aren't guitar nerds like myself. I keep wanting to add things I forgot, but it's already more than detailed enough. LOL

Probably one of my favourite pics of Tommy ever. I want to stare at it all day.

Oh and the parts about the guitars is also interesting. I did read, I promise. Even if most of it did go over my head. But Tommy pics... damn why is he so pretty?

and if in my pretty bsc world he is looking at Adam smiling like that and having to pull his t-shirt down to cover an unfortunate reaction to Adam, then no one shall know...

The main thing here is, of course, Tommy. :DDD

A love of guitars is just something I can say I share with TJ.

This post is so interesting. I've wondered about Tommy's guitars and equipment (musical equipment, that is...) :) and this answered some of my questions. I don't understand all of it but love how you tied it into Tommy's preferences.

When he played at the radio show here in DC, he dropped a large, thick, blue pick on the floor. I asked if he needed it and he said it was an old bass pick so I could have it. It has no writing on it so I don't know what kind it is. I have one of his GN picks too. I like that you showed us which pick he prefers for electric guitar.

Thanks for taking the time to post all this!!

Glad you learned something :)

Bass picks are heavier and larger because the strings on a bass are really big compared to a six-string. You need more oomph to play those strings. The stiffer (excuse me) that a pick is, the more punch it gives to the sound, and also it's more accurate. A lighter-gauge pick is easier for strumming because it will flex more while playing, but that means it's harder to make a solid connection with a string when picking individual notes.
