I just like so many of the players in the Maple Leafs I can't help but cheer for them.

I know some of them are not angels, but I think every team has its share of goons who take cheapshots, although some more than others.

I find that, because they have so many players I liked when they were on other teams (Mogilny and Nieuwendyk from Devils, Klee from Caps, Leetch from Rangers), it's hard for me to be disappointed if they lose, despite them being a rival... this series is between two of New Jersey's rivals so part of me is saying, "Can't they both lose?"

The only Leaf I like is Mogilny. I don't care for the rest of them. I know the Red Wings wanted Mogilny and Mogilny wanted to play for the Wings. I was disappointed when instead he was traded from the Devils to the Leafs.

Although I am pulling for Toronto over Philly. I'm hoping for a Detroit/Toronto or Detroit/Montreal Stanley Cup Finals. It's been too long since two original six teams faced each other in the Finals.

one block from Casa Fiesta, the best Mexican place in DC

OMG... I can't believe you KNOW that place!!! It's seriously AMAZING, but so hole-in-the wall... no one ever knows what I'm talking about when I talk about it! But dude, it's SERIOUSLY the best Mexican in DC. And maybe the cheapest! Whoa... do a lot of people from American know about it? I've always assumed it was like my little restaurant secret...

I've been called a bandwagoner because I like the Flames.I don't like the term "bandwagoner" in this situation. You cheering for the Flames doesn't make you a bandwagoner, because they're not "your team." You won't run out and buy a Flames jersey and put Flames stickers on your car and use the word "we" in association with them (right?). THOSE are marks of a bandwagon fan. But just cheering for a team, with no pretense of ever having followed them before or acting like a know-it-all about them, doesn't make you a bandwagoner. Especially when your team has already been eliminated. Especially in the West, I pick playoff teams every ( ... )

Not many American people knew about it... I discovered it with a friend during my first week of school... he's like, "They have $4 quesadilas, we have to go!" And it's amazing. Yeah it is a hole in the wall, but the food is so amazing! And the drinks, yummy!

I could see myself buying a Flames jersey, heh. I don't know. I wouldn't mind having a Western team to root for... so maybe I will be a "bandwagoner." My only beef with the term is it blankets people. I mean, if you start liking a team when they're doing well but stick with them when they're doing poorly, technically you started as a bandwagoner but stuck around and that's A-OK.

And the drinks, yummy!

They were serving me margaritas when I was 17!!!

I wouldn't mind having a Western team to root for...I find that with having Center Ice, it's almost essential to have a group of teams that you follow and like, other than your team. I look at it as the equivalent as Your Team = Your Spouse. Your group of teams you also follow? Your friends. So like, on nights when you don't do something with your spouse, it's okay to hang with your friends, because they're just friends and you love your spouse... like on nights when the Flyers are off, I have a group of teams I watch if they play: LA, St. Louis, Colorado, Montreal, and Minnesota. I'm SORTA friends with San Jose and have a love/hate with Vancouver. Calgary is a new friend of mine... I think I'm actually losing the ability to form coherent sentences, yes? Stupid Avs-Sharks OT ( ... )

The other night Emer and I were pretty inebriated but I was set on watching the Calgary game. She didn't want to because it "wasn't her team," she just didn't want to watch a game she didn't have a vested interest in. I think having Center Ice would be a problem because I'd probably want to watch EVERY Devils game as well as a TON of other teams... Flames, Wild, Habs, Leafs, Thrashers, etc.

Good article! I think the "pick a side" thing applies to many areas. If you're in Central Jersey, you need to pick Devils or Flyers. Same thing with Chicago with Cubs and White Sox.

They always carded me!!!

CBC-TV's audio comes in at something like 87 or 88 FM on radios, for some reason. You should put a casette tape into your stereo and record the HNIC opening tonight.

I've taped a few games on VHS so I have it there... but maybe I'll do that too, would be a cool intro to a mixtape. Just wish I could find an mp3 of the new version.

My friend in Ottawa has a record called The Story of Hockey Night in Canada, circa-1965 or so. It's got the old, old, old, old full version of the theme, plus a documentary-style recounting of the history of the show to that point.

I think she paid a buck or two for it at a garage sale.

Cleveland is a cool little city. Any plans to take an afternoon to explore the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It's worth seeing at least once in your life. I've been twice and enjoyed it.

When I used to live out there I'd go to Cleveland Barons games (AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks) at the time there was this young buck of a hockey player, I mean this kid was HOT on ice. He was fun to watch. That "kid" is now in his sophomore season with the Sharks, that kid is Jonathan Cheechoo! Getting to see him play before he made it into the NHL was pretty cool.

That's what's cool about Canada, tons of junior league teams, I mean, Gretzky played in the juniors but not a second in the minors... almost EVERY Canadian who wants to be in the NHL plays in juniors first. So you get to see the 16 year-old versions of many who will eventually be in the NHL.

Don't know about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we might be neck-high in festivities...

amazing too! proud to run into another Flames fan! Oliwa rocks my socks and obviously we're not the only 2 Krzysz fans, you can hear the fans here chanting his name every couple of regular season games! Monday night, the Flames will be burning up the Joe...;)

I gotta admit I'm a Devils fan first, so when we were knocked out I had to start liking another team... thing is, I might keep liking the Flames, I really like what... "what they're about" (as cheesy as that sounds). So I could have one Eastern Conference and one Western Conference team!

I remember Oliwa as a Devil - he's a more... shall we say, complete? player now. With us, he just fought. And fought. And fought. Don't get me wrong, that's why I loved him, but he was quite one-dimensional.

I have a fight video of the Devils 97-01... Oliwa is in 90% of the fights! :P
