[ So Cyborg wakes up in a pair of pants- which he promptly ditches, because why are they even. And he comes across a rather too-conveniently labeled book, which is truly too conveniently-labeled to be ignored.

Plus it appears to be for communication purposes. Really great replacement for high-tech, hand-held beautiful works of easy-to-use but ( Read more... )

pink wings are go, detachable limbs, +action, does not call for boo-yah, luckiest ever??, like an action figure, +voice

[Have a really confused scientist, Mr. Cyborg.]

I have heard of the Malnosso adding excess limbs - indeed that seems to be quite the common practise - but removing them?

Are you alright? Do you perhaps require medical assistance or is the wound closed already? [Robert can't tell that Cyborg is... well... a cyborg, yet, so he's operating off the principle that it's a flesh arm. Feel free to tell him otherwise.]

[ Next time he jumps to conclusions about missing arms, he's totally considering how to put it ahead of time. ]

I don't need any medical assistance for this. I just need my arm. [ Haven't for a long time.

...words, words. ] So if someone's prosthetic was gone when they turned up, where would it go?

[Words are indeed Robert's strong suit. He pauses for a moment.]

A... prosthetic? [So now the barbarian "scientists" are making life difficult for those differently-abled, too? It figures.] Bah, what imbeciles the Malnosso are.

I should expect that your prosthetic would be found in the items shop, unless there was some reason the Malnosso would confiscate it. [And more to himself:] Really, confiscating a prosthetic arm of all things? The Malnosso manage to sink to startling new lows on a regular basis...

Considering they got us all holed up in their giant upside-down fishbowl? I haven't been here ten minutes and I'm not surprised.

["Haven't been here ten minutes"...?]

... Ah. You are a New Feather, then? [That would explain why Robert hasn't heard this particular voice over the journals before. (Though it could also have been that he simply didn't register it.)] This would be my first time witnessing one of the so-called "New Feather cycles", then.

I trust that, despite the temporary [- hopefully -] loss of your limb, you are doing well enough here so far? This place can certainly be... jarring to those who are unused to paranormal activity, such as myself.

I think I can manage alright. This ain't the first time I've seen someone messed around with timestreams and different universes. [ Being a hero lends much experience. ]

I was referring more to such phenomena as souls, magic, demons and gods. [Robert says this very bluntly, with a faint edge of tiredness that suggests the whole concept has exasperated him more times than he'd care to count.]

If you are from a world where none of those apply, you will quickly realize that the general physics of the populace are predisposed to cause you much in the way of mental discomfort. Though I have had magic demonstrated to me myself at this point, so it is not impossible for you to receive confirmation in that regard... But I understand if you are skeptical. That is the most logical way to react, after all. [In case you couldn't tell, Robert likes logic.]

[ Magic and demons. Go figure. ]

That corner of the market, huh? [ Tell him he didn't get dropped into someone's apocalypse. ]

So they are something you have had experience with before? [There is a mild note of incredulosity in Robert's voice. Why is it that all the worlds seem to be paranormal except his?]

It seems odd for a person's universe to be completely free of such phenomena, here.

Yeah, I've seen a spell or two in my day. [ Maybe someday, Robert. ]

...really?

Indeed, much to my chagrin. The laws of physics between the various multiversions here must differ significantly in many regards. I have yet to have access to my nanocomputer, though, so I cannot give you much in the way of accurate readings to support that statement - I hope to remedy this situation in the future.

[As much as Robert hates the Malnosso, he also hates not having any of his Terran technology with him.]

[ Sigh. ] I guess this isn't the place to hope for a fully functional computer with a decent system to back it up.

[ At least all his technological-biological needs are online. ]

Unfortunately, you would be correct in that regard - though there are a few residents with computers of their own, but they may not be from the era of technology you expect.

Hopefully this does not encumber you too greatly? Perhaps I could assist you as well, assuming my nanocomputer is ever given to me.

Well, I think I'm gonna manage all right.

... but maybe I'll give you a call if I end up needin' help.

I would be glad to assist you were I able to do so.

But forgive me my lack of formality on this point before - my name is Professor Robert Alexander Hastings. [There is still, occasionally, that urge to add "certified astrobiologist of the Randi Institute".]

Nice to meet you, Professor. I'm Cyborg. [ Real names are overrated. ]
