photo post -- natural bridge state resort park

Nov 06, 2011 22:40

So today, I decided that I was going to go hiking, since it was the first day off I've had in a long time that has been nice weather. After a bit of research, I decided on Natural Bridge State Resort Park (I don't think it counts as a resort in the winter -- the pool is closed!) as my destination. And was promptly reminded, after the leisurely ( Read more... )

Oh my, what a glorious spot and your pictures are beautiful.

It looks like you had the perfect day for hiking and uphill hikes are so good and making you go, oh yes, my calves have forgotten this.

I had some of that when I went hiking with my parents at Sugarloaf in California, I'm in good shape but there were some points of now that's just steep.

Yeah, the elevation change on this trail up to the arch was a gain of 500 feet, but in such a short amount of switchbacks it was a bit brutal.

Made it, though! I only had to stop a few times and rest.

I really need to go more often. Also I need to buy better socks. I didn't wear my normal hiking socks, as they are thick winter hiking socks, so the thin ones I wore were not enough cushion on the downhill slogs.

But at least my feet didn't overheat.

Wow, that's gorgeous. Reminds me that one of these days I'll need to post the pics I took in AZ when my bro and I went hiking in the canyon.

So glad you got to get out today. I have a feeling your a lot like me where you just gotta get OUT every once in awhile, out of the house, out of the city, or mass murder and violence become an issue.

GIVE ME TREES OR I'LL GIVE YOU DEATH!

*ahem* >.>

You got some beautiful country out there, and I'm so happy the weather was good enough for you to enjoy it. :D

You definitely need to post your desert pics! I love canyons.

HAH! Yes. I do need to get out every once in awhile. Yesterday was one of those days. And a beautiful day at that.

Wow, these are stunning. I'm now green with jealousy that I was no on said hike with you, given that I freakin' love hiking. WHAT a gorgeous day, and you guys still have trees with leaves on them, so you got some terrific fall color.

They're all beautiful, but I especially like the shot of the path and the one from the observation point that just looks out over all the color. Thanks for putting them up! Hope you're not too sore this morning.

I'm not too sore. My knee is a little stiff, but I think that was more from the downhill march (there were several segments with wooden staircases to get down the super steep parts) and so that tends to play havoc on my joints.

I'm glad you liked! It is pretty out here. I don't appreciate it often enough.

Though if you'd been with me on the hike I'm sure I would have been trailing along behind you, LOL.

Isn't it funny how in some ways downhill can be harder? And no no no, you wouldn't be trailing that far behind, trust me. Whatever I might have on you in terms of baseline fitness I lose in sleep dep;)

The uphill was just a hell of a slog -- a lot of wide stairs carved into the dirt/rock/etc, so you couldn't get a rhythm going like if you were climing in a stairwell -- but the downhill it was more technical. Uphill was just OMG, KEEP MOVING. Downhill it was okay, keep moving, don't trip on the roots, don't slide on the leaves, oh look the staircase has turned into a muddy waterfall, okay don't fall on your ass...

BRB, let me go get my flannel shirts and dirty jeans out of storage. I know I haven't had a shower but I'm not grunge enough yet this morning to go back on a 90's flashback.

(I was 10 when that song came out.)

FFFFFF THAT SONG IS AWESOME.

It's the first album I played in the Alero, as I drove it off the lot in Monticello in September '00. >:DDD

For serious, gorgeous photos, and what a beautiful day it was! (I'm pretty sure I was still conked the hell out while you were traipsing around ~nature~ and taking these, laaaawl.)

Provided my plague disappears, and weather permitting, maybe we should hit the Gorge next Sunday? (Or are you off at all next weekend?)

By 'next Sunday', do you mean the one in six days or the one in...

*counts on hands*

THIRTEEN. I CAN DO MATHZ.

Ahem.

...or the one in thirteen days? Because next week, I work Tuesday-Sunday, and then Mon-Weds of the week after. Thursday is Turkeyday. And supposedly I get to work Black Friday, too. GEE THANKS, PETSMART. SO GLAD I GET TO WORK EVERY DAY FROM NOW UNTIL OBLIVION.

Meh. Money is money. Who cares if I break down into an exhaustion bubble!

My schedule for this week is still in the Camry. I'll figure that out once I go down to the car to get IN the car, which means I'd have to be ready for work.
