The New Musèe Trailer

Feb 09, 2005 00:38

This last weekend Michelle and I met with a grant writer for our Musèe documentary. We are going to be submitting to ITVS this Friday! In order to complete the submission I had to create a new trailer that shows the structure of the film. This trailer is very different than the teaser that I did 2 years ago.

Please watch the trailer! (30 MB Read more... )

i think it is looking good... but i dont know that the trailer is entirely effective as a trailer.

i feel like the clips are too long? i kind of felt like i saw a big chunk of the movie.

i did like the footage of the dancing..and i liked the music that went with the clip. it might be better if you interspersed a little more of ...seeing the mechanical stuff in action between the bits of talking? i dont know. its too early for me to be thinking. time to get ready for class.

It's true, I wish there was more cut away footage in there, but I had to work with what I had already had on my computer. It's supposed to be more informative than your typical trailer because we have to sell it cold to grant programs. They are looking for a good sample of the footage.

Thanks for watching it, Jen! And for commenting. I will keep in mind that you felt some of the clips were too long.

Thanks Pablo, it feels great to really be working on the film again. I couldn't live if I didn't finish it to the best of my ability. We at least owe the Musee that.

You can put your feedback here. It would be great if people had a discussion about their reactions. Not that I can make it happen or not, but I would like the reactions to be public. =)

Thanks for watching it!

before i gush, i'll tell you my one super dorky grammar comment. at the very very very end when it reads "in san francisco" that implies to me that its current location is outside of san francisco (even though it says pier 45 on the prior shot...but just grammatically...or if you weren't paying attention or didn't know enough about sf or something). i'm trying to think of a way to make that not happen and i think even saying "within san francisco" instead works better. but maybe that's worse. ugh. or just taking out the "in san francisco" all together and just leave at it "...its rightful place?" yeah. that! feel free to ignore me. i'm curious if anyone else thought that or if i'm insane ( ... )

Just like Tim was saying there is a gap in the history of the location, I agree with you tht there is a gap in the story that leads to Pier 45, and just what is Pier 45. That's really the 2 day factor! Meaning, I had two evenings to cut that from a bunch of footage that has been logged on my computer forever. Most of the Pier 45 related stuff will be in the next version of this as it gets refined.

I'm glad you connected with Ed though, I wanted him to be a total lovable guy.

I think you need to begin out with the historical aspects of the old location, go into the vibrancy of the area back when it was first built and the historical significance, the baths, etc... Then slowly move closer into some stock footage. I think there is some old footage on archive.org of the location(??). From there, the audience will have more of a sense on the location and how it fits into the city.

Beyond that, I think its a great start and I can't wait to see more!!

I agree with you about the historical start to the film, but I feel like I have to be careful with that because of the real estate of time I'll have in the 30 minute movie we are trying to make. It's certainly a concern to balance enough of the history so someone who has never heard of the Musee gets an idea of it's past, and why the Sutro area is so important to it.

Thanks for the feedback, Tim!
