I disagree. It's SOOOOoooooooooo much easier when you're stupid, because things like "ramifications" quite obviously don't ever come into play.

Hi! We met, at least once, about...oh...5 years ago? I'm one of Beth's friends from Oberlin. She pimped your journal, I remember you as being very cool, and I will add you to my friends list, providing you don't mind.

David - I remember you and all Beth's friends as we lunched with you at Oberlin. She has kept me up to date a little about what is going on with you and I have been reading her LJ for some time now. I especially like your political posts.

I've heard lots of talk lately on TV that people are hiring nannies that speak Manchurian so that their children can be proficient in that language. Seem like the economic prospect of doing business with the Chinese is a motivating factor.

It's a good language to know, but it depends on where you live. Here, it's not so useful.
