(edit) Apparently it's been confirmed by a leak. I'll give points to Konami for being the closest when he guessed it had something to do with FF1. ("Ya know FF1 had a bunch of 4's. 4 orbs, 4 heroes, 4 fiends. Maybe it has something to do with FF1?")

Ports of the remix for wonderswan color. For the amount of times they've done it, they've never really REMADE ff1. This is either going to be some kind of remake or something based on it.

I don't think the art style is a product of the engine, unless I'm misunderstanding you.

I agree that the DS doesn't really do 3D that well. The texturing tends to be completely awful. FF4 DS at least strongly resembles the original art style (or at least the Amano rendering).
