Snow: I was ready for another Zell or Wakka. This guy is surprisingly subdued.

Vanille: I heard from fifty people how bad her VA was. It's not as bad as I was braced for, but I'm pretty sure the ( Read more... )

How far are you? The battle system only gets better and better as the game goes on. You'll still be discovering new things about it 20 hours in.

I'm in chapter 3. I hear it gets good around chapter 10.

I have paradigms already (obviously), but my crystariums (crystaria?) are puny and I've managed to max several of them.

I just got to play with Hope for the first time; that should give you a pretty accurate idea of where I am exactly.

Yep, I know exactly where you are now. That's my least favorite chapter because they make you control Hope, and he's the worst leader ever. The game will get better and better as you go on. The story takes a major nosedive later, but only for the span of one (long) chapter, then it picks up again.

The "linear" comment above was referring to leveling via crystarium, not the actual linearity of the game. I actually don't mind it as much as everybody whining has. It just streamlines things.

Also, I hate how I can never tell if I'm actually "sneaking" up on people for a preemptive strike. I can't count how many times I THINK I'm going to kill some dudes from behind, and magically at the last second they spot me. Don't implement a system like that if it doesn't work properly.
