Pretty long entry my friends due to my game review, so i'll cut it. ^^
Well, for the lack of updating, lets just say that life has been incredibly buzy with me and with all of these games coming out, i've been buzy keeping track with that, plus my work outs, school and other games.
Speaking of school, i'll be performing in one of the short plays as well. ^_^
So back to the subject of games, i've decided to do some reviews from now on so people will learn more about my taste in games, such as RPGs, Fighters, and action games. And yes, I do play some games that may spark controversy, but i'm a gamer. I live to play games, nuff said! :D
And now, i'll bring up a review of a game i've played for a while....and then soon traded in for credit trowards Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, but you'll find out why soon. ^^
This game is TNA: Impact the Video Game. It is the first video game adaptation of the Total Nonstop Action wrestling branch founded by pro-wrestler Jeff Jarett and his father Jerry Jarett. Unlike fellow branch the World Wrestling Entertainment, TNA features its unique 6 sided ring where it features pro wrestlers from the legendary to the up and coming which compete for its championships, including its 'X-Division' championship. It is currently shown every Thursday and replays every Saturday night on SPIKE TV.
Now not to give off too much history, by playing the X-Box 360 version of the game i'd like to start off by saying that the graphics are incredibly amazing, with incredible details on the TNA wrestlers themselves, as well as their locations. The pro wrestlers featured in TNA Impact have some of the best details that I have ever seen in any pro wrestling video game up to date, even compared to the recent WWE games.
For controls, this game has incredibly easy controls, even compared to some of the N64 WWE and WCW games. Most of the moves that you can do in TNA Impact are easy to pull off. Whenever you are put into a submission lock, you have to press the right 3 button combination in order to either escape the hold (if you're in the hold) or to tighten the hold (if you're the one doing it.) and whenever you are pinned, you have to rotate the control sticks to fill up the meter before the 3 count to escape the pin. Plus, with good timing, it is also incredibly easy to counter your opponents moves, as well as counter your opponents counters.
While it may look good, play good and feel good, this is where it starts going downhill for TNA Impact: The Video game.
For its flaws, it has a pretty small roster and it is as follows:
Abyss (Unlockable)
Afro Thunder (Unlockable character from Ready 2 Rumble Boxing)
Kurt Angle
Benny the Clown (Unlockable)
Booker T
Brother Devon
Brother Ray (Unlockable)
Christian Cage
Christopher Daniels
Sonjay Dutt (Unlockable)
Hernandez
Homicide
Jay Lethal
Jeff Jarrett (Unlockable)
Lenny the Clown (Unlockable)
Kevin Nash (Unlockable)
Rhino
Robert Roode
Chris Sabin
Samoa Joe
Senshi (Unlockable)
Shark Boy
Alex Shelley
Scott Steiner
Sting
James Storm
A.J. Styles
Suicide (Your Create a Character)
Mike Tenay (Unlockable)
Tomko (Unlockable)
Don West (Unlockable)
Eric Young (Unlockable)
And thats it. Wait....whos Suicide you ask? Apparently he is the character you play as your Create a Character in TNA Impacts Story Mode, which is mediocre to say at best.
Suicides story starts off where he is an up and coming wrestler in the TNA ranks. One day he is offered an title shot and on the day of his title shot, LAX (The Latino American X-change, Homicide and Hernandez, for those who don't watch TNA) attempt to force Suicide to take a dive on his match or they'll jump him. Suicide, not easily intimidated, wins the match and the title, but keeping their promise, LAX attack Suicide, beat him up to the bringe of death, and then ship him over to Mexico, where we soon see him in a body cast with amnesia.
After Suicide is healed of his wounds, he now starts off as the character that you created on the Create a Wrestler mode, fighting his way in Lucha Libra events in Mexico to win enough money to head back to America to fight back in TNA. Soon back in America and TNA, he is brung under Kevin Nash's wing where after a few singles matches, your character soon teams up with Eric Young for a Tag Title run. I didn't go much into the story, but the reasons why, i'll explain in a little while.
As for the Create a Wrestler, it is absolutely one of the worst CAW's I have ever seen in a pro wrestling game. It has incredibly small arrangements of clothing for your wrestler and as for the moves.....well what moves!? When you first start off with your CAW, his moves are set to DEFAULT and until you win some matches and earn some 'Style Points' you won't be able to unlock any more moves and wrestlers as well. And even if you unlock them and equip them onto your CAW, it makes no difference to the strength of your character. Pretty much EVERYONE in the game has the same strength, and the AI is so crappy that as you progress in the game, they're pretty much programed to kick out even after you execute your finisher, unless you pummel them down with a few chair shots, but thats pretty much the only weapon they have available to attack with!
And getting back to the roster, despite the fact that they had their bodies and moves scanned for the game, I read on IGN's review of it that even Midway had a hard time programming it. So at least thats a excuse. But it wouldn't hurt them to put in a few more wrestlers, and at least some Knockouts to level out the testosterone.
Speaking of Knockouts, only Christie Hemme is shown in the game either as some eye candy for the loading screens or to see her digital self being freaked out by Eric Youngs hormonial nervous breakdown! Wouldn't it hurt to bring in some ladies, such as Jacqueline, Taylor Wilde, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Roxxi Lebeaux, Salinas or even Awesome Kong and ODB!?
And what about other wrestlers such as The Rock and Rave Infection, since they come out with Christie Hemme, although they do carry around Guitar Hero guitars as part of their gimmick, but at least it would've been a cool weapon....but why not also have Eric Young as 'Super Eric' or Christopher Daniels as Curry Man!? Although, interestingly funny, in the beginning of the story mode as Suicides disappearance is reported on newspapers it shows that Curry Man is being sued by Christopher Daniels! Which is strange since they're both one and the same person!
Ranting aside though, there is still room for improvement.....but at least i'd like to say that this is at least a rental. I mean there is plenty of room for a lot of improvements, but graphics and gameplay wise, Midway and TNA were in the right direction.
But hey, at least that'll be saved for the sequel...and at least it'll be much more better than what this game came out with. ^^
Anyways, hopefully i'll have a update on my life soon...hows everyone else doing? ^_^
