2008-The Best and Worst Bits!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a good one, and that Satan was good to you all. I got tonnes of new clothes, Iron Man on DVD, shoes with stars on, new slippers, a 'name-a-star' kit and loads of other fun stuff. I spent New Year with my cousin Alex and her friends, which was pretty fun considering I was the only one aged over 20 there. :P

2008 has been a wierd year for me. I feel like I've achieved some things and on the other hand not achieved much. At the beginning of the year I promised myself I would sort myself out and get a proper job. It was the year of the rat, which is my Chinese zodiac year, so I decided it would be my year. In April I lost it a bit, got really depressed and quit my job, then ended my 4 year relationship with Leigh. A couple of months after this I began to get closer to my ex Ran, who moved to Bristol for a work placement. It was stupid and I was vulnerable after my breakup with Leigh, but it all went tits up and he majorly fucked me over. Here was someone I'd been friends with since I was 14 and someone I never thought would upset me or I would ever be so mad at. I told him I never wanted to see him again, and that was the end of a 9 year friendship, but I suppose one of my goals was to stop people walking all over me and letting myself be a mug. I'm proud I was able to tell him to get lost, but I'm still upset I lost an old friend.

I bummed about for a while working temp jobs over the summer. I actually really enjoyed my temp job at Brenty Lodge Youth Centre but I barely scraped a living and despite the hour each way walk that made me fit and suntanned, I decided it was time to get a more stable job, so I applied to NOMA architects. I was offered that job, but at the same time, had enquired at Kinneir Dufort about working in thier studio. I almost didn't take the job at NOMA, and part of me wishes I hadn't now because now I'm in pretty much the same situation as I was when I was working at Powerwave, except I'm not full time. Anyway, I worked one day a week at KD for a few months and had an awesome time doing it, until they had to make staff cuts due to lack of work and I was first to go. Amazingly enough though, I found out that I was actually quite good at something and received a lot of praise from them. It was the first time I'd done a job that people actually appreciated my work, and it made me realise that my fear of never really being good enough at anything was probably unfounded. Hopefully I'll be able to go back there this year, I've already sent them an email asking if they have any work.
So now I'm just at NOMA. The job annoys the piss out of me and our 3 directors are like The Muppets, but I've made some great friends in the form of Lucie and Rachel, who work there as Part 1 architects.

Apart from NOMA, Jess and I have our own company called Beep Beep Car Co. which makes all sorts of stuff and we've started doing shows and conventions. It's good to keep up with the creative stuff, but I do find it pretty stressful in prolonged bursts. We're going down London in March to do the Web and Minicomics Thing 2009. Although I do love to make things, I find doing conventions depressing sometimes, especially when you've put in so much effort and people just look and smile and walk away! I've decided after the Minicomics con I'm probably going to give it a bit of a rest and focus on learning the piano again, considering now I actually have one, I haven't had time to play it, what with doing Christmas craft shows and then Christmas itself! I'll probably continue to make and sell things on my online shops.

So! My plan for 2009 is as usual to get a better job, earn more money, re-learn the piano and keep creative without burning myself out and making myself really ill, which I did twice in 2008! Happy 2009, y'all!
