Awkward

Today had a few awkward moments. The mortuary that did our service called today. They just wanted to do a survey and know how they could improve things, which was odd, but understandable. I'll be meeting one of them tomorrow afternoon to see about how things were. I was glad that he waited a while to contact me and was quite polite about it.

I always felt bad when I had to give people the "Thank you for asking. I appreciate your concern but he/she/they passed away...." speech. Of course it brought back the pain of losing my loved one/s but it always seemed so much worse for the one who had asked because it left them feeling awkward, uncomfortable, heartbroken, or any combination of the three.

Yeah, that happened at work when I came back. A guy didn't know what happened and said "I noticed you took a little vacation". I told him I was away on bereavement, then he asked "Why? Who died?". I told him and he kind of got flustered, apologized and went off. I think he felt like an asshole for his comment, though it wasn't his fault that no one shared info with him.
