Current musings!

Hello. Oddly enough I’m not dead, I’ve just been rather busy! That combined with the loss of my laptop has rather slowed me down.

Why the loss of a computer should bring about a case of writer’s block I have no idea, but sometimes you do need both the right conditions and the right mindset to actually sit down and write. Ideas - they are never a problem. Writing, then editing, then rewriting, then correcting… that is the hard bit. But the last time I posted something in a bit of a hurry (when I posted the Alexander story “Stormcloud”) I later realised I managed to leave out a scene I had in note form and would probably have been rather nice. Maybe, if laziness does not conquer all, I will rewrite it and post it here.

At any rate, things are returning to normal and I have started writing and planning again, though it might be a little while before I post any stories. Not, actually, because I haven’t got any ready, but because I need to take the time to get them ready for posting. These little things can be such a pain.

One thing I have been doing, though, is plenty of reading. Thanks to joining two new libraries, one of which is part of a consortium where you can borrow books from other boroughs, I have had a reading explosion. No more pawing over my amazon wishlist and sighing as I look at my credit card statement! Suddenly I have an embarrassment of free riches!

Sadly there just isn’t enough time in the day to do all the reading I want to do. My reading list just gets longer and longer. I will try and post something regarding some of the things I’ve been reading, fiction and non-fiction… but for now I will just as a pointless question…

Why can’t anyone write a decent novel about the Trojan War? Does anyone who actually writes a novel set in hat time bother to read the ancient accounts before imposing their own modern judgements upon it? Never mind, it makes each new instalment of Eric Shanower’s utterly wonderful “Age of Bronze” that much more precious!

I have also been having a wonderful time in Mangaland … but I’ll get back to that some other time..

In the meantime, thank you to all who continue to friend me, send me messages or review my stories on LJ or FFnet or Gurabite.  I promise I will try to reply to everyone, sooner or later!
