Okay, Shuichi's rape had crossed my mind as something that had happened a year before, but I forgot how soon before Eiri's "marriage" that had occurred. Also I didn't understand why Hiro would be so upset about it, nor did I connect it with Shuichi's and Eiri's beach vacation.

Thank you for this fic. I wrote a story about some of the same events from Eiri's POV for 30_kisses, in part to solidify my own thoughts about why Eiri threw Shuichi out. They're similar to the ones Hiro expresses; I don't think he was entirely or even primarily thinking of his own reputation but of Shuichi's, ironically enough in view of later developments. I also think Eiri felt that his tossing Shuichi out was to a large degree responsible for leaving Shuichi vulnerable to Aizawa's depredations, which reinforced his view that he was bad for Shuichi, thus his attempt to leave Shuichi by running away himself instead of pushing Shuichi away.
