The letter was so beautifully written and the scene by the stream was so romantic despity the whole uncertainty. It kind of reminded me of a film btw, you know ones of those that involve alot of teenage angst or/and unrequited love. Wish I could remember the title :/
Anyways, as always, amazing update. Can't wait to read chapter 5 :)
Sorry I haven't responded - I will complain of my internet problems at length in the update, so won't do it here. I know what you mean about that scene - it reminds me of something to, but I also think it's one of those lingering images often used to express adolescence growing into adulthood - moments when children stop looking at each other, especially naked!, as children, and become sexually aware. I'm sure in Alexander's time it was particularly so - imagine being naked in the gym or the baths and suddenly beginning to find the bodies around you attractive!
Actually the scene reminds me of your icon too - I'm not a huge fan of the film, but the childhood scenes were handled really well (I did love Val Kilmer's Philip, I have to admit - wasn't so keen on Olympias) and I thought the young Alexander was terrific. And the looks between him and young Hephaestion... if only it had carried on a bit more like that! But enough, I will shut up. If there hadn't been a film, we wouldn't be here now!
