Why Must Every Version of my Site Be Hacked?

Seriously, right when I'm finally in frame of mind to say, "Hey, I think I need to do some much needed maintenance to my YST site"... this nonsense happens.

My knowledge of HTML in general is pathetically bare and basic. It just all sounds so complicated. Even when I fix some of the coding on my Tumblr RP blogs, it takes me a long ass time because I want to make sure everything is in the right place. But wow, every web host you've used has been hacked O.o Nothing seems to be as secure as they used to be.

I would LOVE to learn of the plans you had for revamping your YST site. Which, by the way, is still one of my favorite sites dedicated to them. I've been out of the YST loop for a while, but still, so many fond and cherished memories.

Funny enough, my HTML knowledge kind-of comes from the fact I had to move so many time due to hacking. It's almost like what happened made me into the web programmer I am today. *yay criminals ( ... )

Yeah, I did quite a bit of internal overhaul to WtEDO (mostly to make it run faster and compress it).

I know, I could leave and find myself a better hosts, like Atspace or GoDaddy. But, what keeps me with 000webhost is they offer access to a very-limited version of Ruby on Rails for free account... which is really rare for any webhost to offer. Of course I wouldn't recommend 000webhost to people who are creating a professional business site (with their password security and downtime, that would be crazy-talk), but if you're like me, a non-pro site that loves to do their own programming, doesn't exchange goods/money and has content that'll bore the crap out of 95% of the world population, then it's not really that bad.

Besides, I've been with them for 6 years and know the in-and-outs of their bad security to the point that when the 'Walking Apocalypse' dose comes, WtEDO's code it ready to pull out and relocate (plus I've this two other times, so I'm kind-of used to it).

I can understand your not wanting to uproot. My webserver, Cyber Pixels, was shunned by the vast majority of the web design community, except I'd been with them for YEARS, understood the site interface, and had a lot of folders/code/sweat/tears invested into it and by the time I'd really considered doing something about it, my interest in site-owning was pretty well on the decline. In fact, I think it was the very reason I stayed-I was done and I knew it, but needed something to force my hand after so many years of stalwart dedication to the craft. Cyber Pixels eventually closed down, and in doing so, set me free. Of course, I still have all those old files and web scripts saved on my desktop at home. DD, BtC, Undertone, The Plain Reality Network-all there in the unlikely event I try my hands at domain ownership a second time ( ... )
