My favorite student essays are ones that use the dictionary a lot, so they end up using words that are way above their vocabulary level. First graders describing people as corpulent, fourth graders talking about ubiquity of something or other, fifth graders using the phrase "while I am still a virgin" instead of "before I get married", etc.
I agree, although it is always a personal amusement, I tend to be harsher on essays using words they clearly can't use/understand. I mean, I'm all for them learning new words, but is the word they need to learn really 'indebtedness'? I doubt it.
I had another food essay, the gist of which was "Peach Lime Light! Reckessly drink feed Peach Lime Light." I may well be improving upon his/her composition.
But yes, dictionary type translations are generally hilarious.
