The setting is some fictional town in Florida. The first five minutes of the pilot does a fairly accurate portrayal of how bad Florida drivers really are. Although, I am pretty sure the creators of the show intended the sequence to be a comedic exaggeration - Florida drivers are really this bad (if not worse). There seems to be only 5 teachers at this high school who cover the following subjects: English, P.E., science, drama, and German - I guess the writers are unaware of subjects such as History and Math - or for some reason don't find it necessary to include them (oddly enough Florida schools rank #10 in this years Education Week report). Additionally, somehow the writers think that experience being a prison clown (a position which I am unfamiliar with and most likely fictitious) is sufficient background to be an assistant principal.
Of course this show is full of stereotypes.
1) While it is nice that there is a gay character (actually bisexual) - they make him super flamboyant and he is of course, the drama teacher. Additionally, he wants to have sex with everyone.
2) The stupidest teacher they make a female (and blonde) - someone so moronic they probably couldn't get a job teaching in Kansas. She is a dimwitted hybrid of a hippy and a creationist, whose argument against evolution is getting naked. Palin looks like a genius compared to her. (this combination of words makes me tremble).
Anyway, I could go on and on - but I will spare myself the trouble -
and perhaps this review will spare you from having to see this travesty.
