It definitely sounds interesting! I really like the idea of insect people, so to speak. Makes me think of "Even A Worm" arc a bit.

Now, will they actually BE insects, so to speak, or is that more their "position" in life?

I think you've got the makings here, but it does need a leeeeettle more sorting out and what-not. My suggestion would be to apply this to the snowflake method first, just to see how much of it you really DO have. And then make with the outlining, like whoa. The snowflake method is what made me realize I don't wanna do vampires anymore. It's a very useful thing.
