you'd need a computer hooked up to the router in order to program it. It doesn't need to be hooked up to a computer to work, however. Though if you have a router and no computer or network enabled device, it kinda makes having a router a moot point. :)

Dunno what service you have, but a well placed call into tech support (they have this, you know) to ask whether they support having a PS3 (or other gaming device) as the first device in line, or only device.

Dunno what model of Linksys you have.. all routers (consumer-grade) are designed to die out at about 3 years of steady use. Linksys, Belkin, DLink, NetGear are pretty much the brands that are better than the rest.. not to say any of them are good or bad.

You can find all the information on this and handy-dandy guides to setting up routers on the respective brand's site. the ISP info is a horrifying call away and hope you get a decent rep that knows half of anything. :)

This thing is about 5 years old, if it's even around anymore. So, i guess I should get a new router. Found out a few days ago that the phone lines that go to my house were fucked, so that might be why the PS3's connection wasn't going through. It looked like everything else was OK, that's why I had thought it was my broken-ass PS3. that would also explain why I haven't been hearing the phone...

Oh, so you're dealing with dial-up or DSL and a router that you don't know exists? Dear, me :P

If you have DSL, you won't hear the dial-tone. If you have Dial-up, you can't use the PlayStation Network because your internet is too slow. If you don't have a wireless router, you won't have wireless.

linksys is the good stuff, bro.

and it does NOT need to be hooked up to your computer. it DOES have to be hooked up to your MODEM, however. :3

Also, you can configure your wireless router without hooking it up to the computer. You just type in the IP address into a computer that's accessing it. It should transmit as soon as you turn it on.

Your WiFi IP is probably 192.168.1.1
Your default user name is probably admin
Your default password is probably admin

If not, use Google. It's all there :3

What exactly are you trying to figure out? That's all you need to know to configure the thing :-\
