Call number three for outside emergency assistance. That has to be a record, right? Right. So two young women with small children, that didn't look like the hiking, or trail walking type (not to place stereotypes on anyone, but out of making casual observation) walked into the building to report 'a suspicious looking pile of white moldy looking ( Read more... )

We were all really excited that something could be out on the trail... but the further we walked, the more I got annoyed at how stupid the whole situation was. A sleeping bag. That's it. The shit smell that she complained about was probably from dog droppings left on the trail... and I guess at first glance, if one wasn't expecting to see something off in the black berries, the sleeping bag could have been sort of sketch. But on closer observation, it was pretty apparent of what it was. It makes me mad how lame the whole thing was, and how ignorant people are of what's in their own backyard. Pooh. I mean, if you really think about it... something dead would be covered in bugs, not so much mold, right?

I've been meaning to ask you, on a side note, what do you think, or, what have you heard about the wildlife graduate program there at humboldt? I've been thinking about looking into it.

I don't know much about the wildlife grad program specifically, but my former housemate was a wildlife undergrad and I've had many classes with wildlife undergrads. It's a really well-respected program, but the undergrad major is more about game management in park settings and is filled with redneck hunter dudes. I have no idea what the grad program is like. What would you hope to do with your degree? If you're thinking about staying in a zoo environment you might go with zoology instead. Humboldt is a fantastic school, though. It's small (the whole community is small), laid back, and you get a lot of support from your teachers (I have anyway). You're more than welcome to come visit me if you want to check it out. :)

Also, the title of this post makes me think of swimming laps of head-high crawl yelling "I'm a lifeguard! I'm here to help! I'm a lifeguard! I'm here to help!" during training.
